Matt Drudge...sent a message Sunday morning excoriating Pope Francis during his trip to Cuba, depicting the head of the Catholic Church alongside Raul Castro and suggesting Francis would rather ignore the plight of political dissidents than endanger his warm welcome from the Castro regime.
A prayer for those locked up in cruel Cuba this morning for dissent, as pope basks in glow of adulation from masses..
Activists have criticized the Pope for failing to plan any meetings with Cuban political dissidents during his visit to the Communist Caribbean nationwhile the government flagrantly and contemporaneously persecutes its Catholics. Just last week, the government violently arrested more than 50 protesters, mostly women, after attending Sunday mass.
In the week before the trip, a reporter asked Francis about Havanas record on human rights and religious freedom, prompting only a tepid response of, essentially, other countries are just as bad.

Drudge rules Devil Pope drools...!
Typical response, get it all the time in the RF.
Not addressing the issue releases balloons, unicorns, and rainbows and all is ok.
If other countries are just as bad oh so what.
The church has always aligned itself with ruling bodies. Nothing new.
If they really cared for the poor they would sell their billions of dollars of real estate and distribute the proceeds.
How can they criticize capitalists who employ the poor and who have elevated the level of ‘poor’ to unprecedented levels. All the while they sit on billions of dollars of wealth and treasures.
If the pope really cared about the poor he wouldn’t be flying in his jet plane and eating lobster and filet mignon with Obama - the very person who is responsible for the increased suffering of millions in this country and abroad.
Just last week, the government violently arrested more than 50 protesters, mostly women, after attending Sunday mass.So the pope sees the Catholic Castro bros [Marx(ists) Bros actually they are on the same page] and says whazzup guys?
This type of persecution happens in a lot of countries so no big deal.
“If the pope really cared about the poor...” a large book could be written after that sentence.
You nailed it ladyjane
With all due respect to Catholics, this Pope was not ready for prime time.
Some things you can’t do in totalitarian nations. Some things you can. He should have uttered some words of encouragement to the faithful.
This guy doesn’t seem to get much of anything clearly right. Of course I’m only hearing what is being reported for sensational value too.
Let’s face it. The media is no friend of any Christians.
I want to add a post script to my earlier comment.
There are many Catholics who really care about the poor. The Sisters of Mercy who have worked tirelessly to provide medical care. The many sister who taught school for decades who were paid practically nothing by the local bishop and who are now destitute and relying on charity of other religious orders for their care.
OTOH there are the lawyers who have made millions defending the church in endless litigation over child abuse.
Redistribution of money from the poor to lawyers.
The world is on fire and this pope seems to be toying with the flames. He makes my heart sad.
If you sold every chalice Holy Mass could not be offered to the glory of God. We are so invested in the short term but Our Lord is forever. He is in charge and, in His time, all will come to know His Love and Glory.
And has he really said anything about the persecution of Christians by the Islamic terrorists?
I think he has on occasion but it seems to me he would be more vocal about something so urgent, but what do I know.
I find no comfort in this mans words, he seems empty to me.
I bet whatever is in those briefcases that security is holding can unleash hell in seconds. See pic.
I was surprised to learn that this is the first time this Pope has been in the U.S. ever.
This Pope has socialist blood pumping through his veins, so his words and actions match the taint.
This “Pope” will set back the Church 500 years.
Stupid bastards in Rome putting this cretin in charge of the Church.
I hadn’t give it much thought.
I just wish he’d brush up on history and take note of the entities that have bought into what he is hawking today.
He should know better.
I’ll tell you where some of the poor nuns go who spent 60 or more years teaching in parochial schools. They worked for years probably assuming that the bishop who paid them $30 a month for their work would provide for them in their old age.
When that hasn’t happened they go to receive care from more affluent groups of nuns because their group has no money and cannot get social security. The bishops now have little money to care for them (or at least they say that) because of all the law suits.
I think you have got a handle on the situation.
I see a lot of Catholics being very disappointed in their pope.
In fact some of the things many of them are saying in the Religion Forum if said by a non-Catholic there would be hell to pay!
Yes the media, following Obama’s example—or is Obama following theirs?—they are not friends of Christians.
The only belief system that it is ok to dis these days is Christianity.
I’m going to see what the Pope does here in the U.S. and how the media attempts to spin it before I become just another voice against him. I am a Catholic who has not been happy with things that have come out that he has supposedly said, but I’ve also seen translations I almost believe have been purposefully misquoted by western media etc I was in on an interesting conversation today and it was said that the Pope wanted to meet with anti-Castro dissidents and was told no. He could have chose to not go to Cuba but where the island was stamped as âan atheist nationâ by the Communists, with small steps made by the Catholic Church people can now practice their religion more freely and new churches are being built. They were talking on Fox about how JP II had written about the horrible affects of Communism in Cuba and that the present Pope had written a paper in agreement saying Capitalism was the only way to raise people out of poverty. We never hear that. I’ve heard people complain he’s going to mostly speak in Spanishâ it is his native tongue and he isn’t as comfortable with his English. OâReilly is saying the Pope has expressed concerns that those who are invited to the WH (gay, transgender etc) are going to be used as a photo op by sticking them in a picture with the Pope and implying he supports their beliefs which is not true. On climate change, he has used the word IF climate change exists, but even if he believes it, it us not church doctrine and he can have his opinion politically that I don’t agree with. If he doesn’t speak about the sanctity of life, I will be beyond disappointed. The left is really pushing him, I hope he pushes back and conservatives don’t just drop out and let the libs take over my church. Yes I know some of you will say they already have, but not with those in my circles.
