Mike Gillette said Clancy called him Monday and said he was “very sorry,” and that the agency “did not handle the situation well.” A spokeswoman for the Secret Service confirmed that Clancy made the call.
According to Gillette, Clancy offered to come to one of the group’s events to apologize in person and offered to have some of the children come to one of the agency’s training facilities in Maryland for a tour.

In a statement e-mailed late Sunday, Brian Leary, a spokesman for the Secret Service, said the closures on Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Square were “put into place based on standard [Secret Service] protocols prior to protectee movements in the vicinity of the White House Complex.”

DC has around 39 different law enforcement agencies which do not appear to communicate with each other.

When terminally ill children are substantially inconvenienced by the pro forma actions of a presidential detail we have lost any reason to respect that office or its occupant.

The Federal government has become like a feudal kingdom, with each agency being its own sovereign duchy. They only owe nominal allegiance to the central government, each one recognizes no constraint on its power, and each agency has its own "army" of armed police to enforce its wishes within its jurisdiction (and often outside of it as well).
Oh, and lest we peasants forget, each duchy does not recognize any constraints on its power over the people, and refuses to be accountable to them.
Just the usual responses: apologize, accept responsibility, mea culpa, then business as usual.
The phrase “accept responsibility” has ceased to have any meaning at all.

High ranking government officials should conform to the Japanese acceptance of responsibility and kill themselves.
I think the problem is that this group asked to have the White House lit up in gold to acknowledge their fight against cancer.

Actually, he was leaving the White House to go address the Congressional Black Caucus.
