JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO FORT SAM HOUSTON, Tex. The Army general who carried out an investigation last year into the alleged desertion of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl believes that a jail sentence would be inappropriate, despite the massive search caused by him walking away from his units outpost in Afghanistan.
Maj. Gen. Kenneth Dahl testified Friday in Bergdahls case that he found the soldier unrealistically idealistic about other people, and remorseful for the massive search his actions caused. He left his platoons outpost, Observation Post Mest in Paktika province, with plans to run 19 miles to the larger Forward Operating Base Sharana, cause a disruption and get the attention of a general.
I do not believe that there is a jail sentence at the end of this process, Dahl said.
Bergdahl, 29, faces charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy in what is the militarys most closely watched desertion case in decades. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
SNIP
Dahl called Bergdahl very bright and very well read, and fascinated by Samurai warrior culture. He knew he would get in trouble for running away from his base, but told Dahl he felt compelled to do so at the time because he was concerned his platoon was in danger due to perceived poor leadership.
Bergdahl was deeply critical of many fellow soldiers, Dahl said. Despite being a low-ranking enlisted soldier, Bergdahl believed that he should have a larger role in targeting the Taliban. He considered taking a fellow soldiers M9 pistol with him on his run to Sharana, but likely decided against it because he didnt want to get him in trouble.
I think he actually believed that if five Taliban rolled up on him, he would have been able to dispose of them, Dahl said.

—with generals such as this, who needs enemies?
Then it probably was!
Warm up the firing squad with this idiot.
I hope this General isnt in charge of anything important.
Firing squad.
"Dahl has been outfitting the defenders of freedom for over a century, and isn't about to stop anytime soon. We've built our company on the foundation that dead customers can't be repeat customers - keeping you alive is in our best interest! We also know that those of you doing the government's secret dirty work have enough to contend with and don't need to fight your weapon, too. That's why we at Dahl have strived to manufacture the smoothest and most stable guns on the market. And when you get surrounded - and you will - you'll be glad to know your Dahl has been precision machined to remain as accurate during sustained fire as humanly possible. So make sure you bring a Dahl with you the next time you go on assignment. It just might bring you back."
Sounds like this general dahl was figured out by bergdahl in the first few minutes of the “interview”. Dahl sounds like a girl man, afraid to get to the nitty gritty the real reason bergdahl deserted. Heck bergdahl mailed all of his personal belongings home a few weeks before he deserted. What does that tell anyone? Were the belongings sent home so Mommy could lauder them and send them back? Hmmm?
kristinn, you may be on spot, Valerie could have given him orders to play nice, because the pRESIDENT honored his parents and they wouldn’t want to be embarrassed if their son was found guilty of deserting his post and men. OH, and
bergdahl thought he had more intellect than his superiors? This is not the military I belonged to.
Maj. Gen. Wuss Dahl promoted as an image of the CinC.
I remember several years ago there was a group of young folks passing out some round “Bring Bowe Bergdahl home” stickers. I took a few. When the news came out with (at least part) of the truth about Bergdahl, those stickers got pasted right over the bulls eyes on some of my range targets. Today, I wish I had more.
I do not believe that there is a jail sentence at the end of this process, Dahl said.
***
I don’t want him to do jail time either; noose or bullet would be fine by me.
Once someone died looking for this delicate flower, justice called out for his blood.
I think I recall how the good General was an honorable General and would do right. Guess he wanted to stay active.
