Late in the second Republican debate, "high energy" Donald Trump was sounding sleepy. When moderator Jake Tapper asked him about his history of flubbing it on basic foreign policy issues, he just sounded tired. "The world is blowing up around us," Trump rotely responded. "We will have great teams and great people."
Sen. Marco Rubio, whose campaign trail attack on Trump prompted Tapper's questions, pounced.
"You should ask him questions in detail about the foreign policy issues our president will confront, because you had better be able to lead our country on the first day," Rubio said to Tapper. "Not six months from now, not a year from now, on the first day in office, our president could very well confront a national security crisis. You can't predict it. Sometimes you cannot control it."
Trump's response "I am not sitting in the United States Senate. I'm a businessman" was basically no response at all. It was a devastating indictment of the Donald's qualifications to be president, one well-pitched to a party that's become increasingly anxious about world affairs since the rise of ISIS.
But it was much more than that. The Trump-Rubio exchange, overshadowed by some of the flashier showdowns in the media post-mortems, was one of the most important moments of the night. It showed that Marco Rubio is the most viable Republican Trump-slayer: an articulate, confident conservative with foreign policy expertise that far outstrips the other major candidates. His poll numbers make him look like a dark horse, but last night's debate revealed that Rubio has a real and increasingly viable shot at winning the nomination.

Could you ping me to that post. Thank you
He is one lisp from falling out of the closet.
From #5.
""And Trump is right - he isnt privy to many of the details of what is going on in national security. He is an outsider, but once he gets into office - he will have a top notch team in place to handle whatever comes up.""

From #60,
""Would that be the same Marco Rubio who joined Bat-Poop Crazy democrats Sen. Charles Scmucky Schumer [D-NY], Sen. Robert Menendez [D-NJ], and Sen. Richard Durbin [D-IL] in the Gang Of Eight to support amnesty for illegals back in 2013?""
You left off and still supports but other than that you nailed it.""
. . . . Check out # 58 and link at # 63.
Thanks, SunkenCiv.
The only reason Trump should keep an eye on Rubio is to see when he hears the ice cream truck and runs out to catch it.
LOL! The only thing Trump needs to worry about with Rubio is which day he is going to drop out and run for the Governor of Fla which we all know is his ultimate goal. :-)
He’d make a good ambassador to a Spanish-speaking country. So would Jeb. And they’d be out of the country for years.
The only job he has in the near future will be campaigning to deliver Florida for the eventual Pubbie nominee -- and it won't be him, or Jeb.
Rick Scott is in his last term. Rubio is leaving the Senate. He is expected to run for Governor of Fla.
Rubio is a sweaty liar and people know it. The left likes him because he is too hawkish and they can flame him as a war monger.
Vox is lefty, that is why they like Rubio.
What do you think about the Russian intervention in Syria? Things are changing very fast.
We couldn’t hack 3 hours of it either, so we recorded it, then skipped the chit-chat and ads, just watching the actual Q&A.
God bless the inventors of the FF, and Skip Forward functions on TVs & DVRs.
Thanks GG2
Well, there certainly is a much better way to fill three hours with an actual debate.
The moderators should be in the background and all candidates should discuss and debate the SAME SUBSTANTIVE issue amongst themselves with probably fewer candidates overall. The last hour could be questions for each candidate from either the audience or the moderators limited to what they actually said during the previous two-hour series of discussions.
I laid out my suggestions on a post yesterday. It would be informative and worthwhile.
Oh, I agree. “Debate” formats that are used are anything but a debate.
The first one was a real joke, though it did expose Fox’s true colors to those who didn’t already know.
Moderators should not be broadcast people; they can’t keep themselves out of face time, anymore than a meteorologist can keep from mugging in front of the the weather map/chart they are screening.
“However, I just couldnt watch three straight hours and skipped parts of it.”
I muted much of it, because many of the candidates grate on my nerves, then I shut it off halfway through and went out to dinner. It was like a sad circus show.
Truth is Rubio,Carly and Carson are all running for the same position:
VP.
They are running for VP but they may not know it. Cruz is the only one who knows it.
Trump should be scared of Senior Amnesty in a Ricky Ricardo look alike contest but not in the Republican primary race.
Possibly he was influenced by all the wrong people.Maybe that's why he joined the banda de los ocho and holds other beliefs that may change as he evolves.
I hate to write the guy off especially since he had the guts to basically quit the Senate knowing his odds at becoming potus had to be low.
It's easy to say he's a rino, joined the gang of eight and is weak on immigration. Tougher to look a lot deeper.
