I've watched all the videos, interviews and so forth, to me Stone is something of a dichotomy. He may be an Air Force medic, but puts out a Marine/Special Forces/Ranger vibe and demeanor. When I first saw the friends together before I knew who was whom I had Stone pegged as the Army/NG combat vet. Whoa was I spectacularly wrong - the books by their cover rule definitely applied here.

Hmm ... Wonder if he’ll receive a White House invite, like the Muslim kid got today.

Or Bergdahl’s parents.

Could this be all about greasing the skids for securing the cooperation of at-home servicemen to prosecute administration punishments upon “home-grown terrorists” as in the kind who may patriotically work at ridding a country of a lawless constitution-loathing power-usurping tyrant?

“Yes, you can wear foreign decorations. I had two and did.”

They’ll have great conversation pieces for next year’s ball.

Glad to hear it. Though I’m surprised obama hasn’t tried to have him arrested for an islamophobic hate crime.

I wouldn’t charge a guy with a gun from 10 meters away.

Maybe at that age I would have :)

shame we have to get old.

I kept reading they were Marines. This is the first time I read (at least) one was Air Force.

I guess all those tasteless jokes about the Air Force not being real warriors took a breather for a day......

... an unusual award of the honor to a serviceman wounded while not in a combat zone.

Rules are for fools.

The whole planet is a war zone.

Matthew 10:34-39

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

The awards they receive are due to the branches of service they are in. If they had been Marines, as originally reported, they would have been lucky to be written up for a Navy Commendation Medal, they probably would have gotten meritorious mast instead.

Air Force hero on French train to be promoted from E-3 to E-5

Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, widely proclaimed a hero after he charged a gunman Aug. 21 on a train in Belgium, will be promoted to staff sergeant, Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh announced Tuesday

The promotion is in addition to the previously announced Purple Heart and Airman's Medal Stone will receive Thursday. Welsh said that Stone was eligible for the Purple Heart under a precedent set by the 2009 attack at Fort Hood, but he is not eligible for other combat valor awards.
