The strategies were worked out with Cruz in mind, not Trump, and also to counter Palin if she were to have gone in to the race.
John Kasich came in after Trump as the counter to Trump.
I just heard one of the GOPe media operatives, Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post, outline the thinking on Kasich - that he is the son of a mailman, a pugnacious fighter and someone who can counterpunch Trump from his humble background with Trump being the son of a multi-millionaire who is a rich guy trying to screw over the needs of the working class and middle class people.
