Pope Blames Refugee Crisis on 'God of Money,' 'Socio-Economic System That Is Bad, Unjust'

In an interview with Portugal-based Radio Renascença aired yesterday, Pope Francis declared that the current refugee crisis in Europe is being caused by a “bad, unjust” socio-economic system that worships “the god of money.”

In the interview, where questions were posed in Portuguese and the responses were given by Pope Francis in Spanish, the pontiff said coveting money will bring about both human and ecological ruin:

This is the tip of the iceberg. We see these refugees, these poor people who are escaping from war, escaping from hunger, but that’s the tip of the iceberg. But underlying that is the cause, and the cause is a socio-economic system that is bad, unjust, because within an economic system, within everything, within the world, speaking of the ecological problem, within the socio-economic society, in politics, the person always has to be the center. And today’s dominant economic system has removed the person from the center, and at the center is the god of money. It’s the fashionable god today. I mean, there are statistics. I don’t remember very well, but — this is not exact and I could be making a mistake— 17% of the population has 80% of the wealth.”

Pope Francis said that refugees from rural areas are being “deforested” and driven into big cities:

“Why are ‘favelas’ (shantytowns) formed in big cities?” It’s the people who come from the country because they have been deforested. They have made a mono-cultivation. They have no work, and they go to big cities.”

Ultimately, the world “is at war against itself, the Pope declared:

“Today, the world is at war, is at war against itself. That is, the world is at war -- as I say -- a war in parts, piecemeal. But it is also at war against the earth, because it’s destroying the earth, that is, our common home. The environment, the glaciers are melting. In the Arctic, the polar bear goes increasingly northward to survive."

OK. Priests aren't people we should look up to. They're just as likely to be perverts as the guy jerking off in the subway. And, according to two "Catholics" that's just peachy. So much for the sanctifying grace of Holy Orders.

Take it up with the Magisterium if you don't think priests are supposed to be moral exemplars for the rest of us. Your Church agrees with my position, and not with yours.

You have the maturity of a two-year old. But I’m sure you get that a lot.

This pope is a moron; possibly the dumbest pope in 300 years.

Thanks.

You're welcome. I'd also add that one is 6 times more likely to be molested by a psychiatrist than a priest. They're worse than school teachers.

The 266th pope meets 0bama on 266th day of 2015 which just happens to be Yom Kippur. Full term pregnancy is 266 days; the end of days is to be like labor pains. I don’t think that 9/23/15 is going to be a very good day.

1st Thessalonians 5:3
“For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”

He’ll talk about Marxism, global warming, carbon taxes, one world government. He’ll also probably talk about establishing a Palestinian state and making Jerusalem an international city under UN/Vatican control.

The Vatican could liquidate all its wealth, give it to the poor, and it would be gone within 90 days - or less.

That is not an argument. It is simply name calling.

Please make an argument, or don't bother to post. Show me where in the Catechism it says that priests are expected to be no better than lay people. I'm dying for you to point it out.

Francis is the dumbest Jesuit I’ve ever seen. Even far-left Jesuits are typically much smarter.

Read the actual interview.

Good advice. He actually comes across as an engaging, friendly, likable guy.

I still say he is punching above his weight, though. As long as he is talking at the level of the parish priest, he does fine. As soon as he tries to talk about the big picture, he comes across as clueless.

"Yep. When they sell the solid gold crucifix and the hundreds of millions in artwork they have and give the money to the poor, THEN you can preach to me."

No problem. Selling all that stuff would probably sustain the world's poor for about two weeks - then what? Are YOU then ready to contribute?

“Let me know when the Vatican liquidates it massive wealth to help the poor.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You misjudge, doncha know -— “the cause is a socio-economic system that is bad, unjust,”
Does the pope suffer from dementia? liberation theology? poor counselors?
No other conclusion-—whatever the origin-—this pope is a globalist tool...so very sad to say.
the irony....
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/pope-francis-promises-to-take-in-two-refugee-families-and-urges-others-to-follow-his-example-10488748.html
“Pope Francis has announced that the Vatican will provide homes to two families of refugees fleeing war and persecution”
2 whole refugee familes???!!! homes right there in Italy?
PR stunt. ....no doubt careful vetting will ensue...and the 2 whole refugee families will be showcased at a future event yet to be determined.
disgust bordering on contempt...and not in any religious manner limited to the leader of the Catholic church. Plenty of it to spread amongst the leaders of the Protestant church as well.
Apostasy all around.
Pope is singing the Globalist tune....playing his role very well.
Muslims Never lay the blame on the people who shred their country because they’re fed up with the Muslim Islamic Leadership they keep voting for instead of moving out from under the Islamic stronghold they think with.
They don’t get that it’s not their leadership...it’s Islam.
What is the socio-economic system in Syria?
Isn’t it just another arab welfare state?
Your argument is actually very weak. If the Vatican liquidated all its assets, and gave them to the poor, those assets would be used up in a week or two - divided among a billion - and nothing fundamentally would change. By the way, how much have YOU contributed to the world’s poor? I would guess, NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
I think that you are right. Before becoming Pope, Francis seems to have little record as a teacher or author, and many of his comments and writings as Pope are painfully ill-formed. In contrast, John Paul II seemed to capture the moment when speaking and delivered powerful written lines of reasoning; and Benedict gave the impression of personal humility coupled with a deep reservoir of learning.
“You do realize that perverts occur in the priesthood at the same rate as the general population and any profession you can name, including yours?”
They don’t take the stance of the moral high ground.
