Snip ...
Researchers were tagging great whites to study their movements. In the process, they tagged a nine-foot female, who left the area safely. Four months later, her tag was found on a beach near where she was first caught -- and the data tells a very interesting story.
"It showed this profile going down the shelf to 580 meters, then a huge temperature change ... another living animal," said a Smithsonian researcher.
Yes, it appears that the nine-foot great white was eaten. The big question? What ate her? Whatever it was, it had to be big enough to swallow almost 10 feet of apex predator, and quick enough to drag it almost 2,000 feet in a few seconds.
So, what is it? A giant squid? Godzilla? A Megalodon? Well, actually, that last one is not too far off from the real theory....

Maybe somebody more versed in marine vertebrate zoology could explain this to me. I can see the “huge temperature change” if this shark was killed by a mammal (killer whale?) but would that happen if it were killed by a huge shark? I thought sharks were cold-blooded?
Only the National Debt is big enough!!!
I always wondered if Orcas eat great whites. I mean, they way outclass them for size and power. I think they are just as fast.
I once heard a wild rumor that if shark flipped upside down, it would go into temporary paralysis. It wouldn’t surprise me, the way Orcas hunt seals, if some Orca pods have learned to flip sharks for an easy meal.
Or maybe it is a sea monster, which at least gets your imagination going.
“It showed this profile going down the shelf to 580 meters, then a huge temperature change ... another living animal,”
To have the huge temperature change, it would make sense that it was a whale, as they are warm blooded.
Not sure if it’s been definitively established, but I wonder if it could be the work of sperm whales. Their preferred diet consists of giant squid, but they are also pretty fearsome predators in their own right.
“We’re going to need....the USS Wisconsin”.
Chris Christie?
This is important?
Kim Jong-un needed a snack.
How about interesting and educational?
It recess time ...
I imagine they have a few sharks to their credit.
I cannot tell a lie.....
Tastes like chicken.
It jumped the shark...
Shark meat can be little dry, you need to wrap it in bacon before cooking.
We’re talking a different scale here.
You would have to stuff a whole hog
with shark meat.
Some shark is pretty good if you treat it right
when caught.
