Egypt’s Government Resigns

Egypt’s President Sisi has appointed Sherif Ismail, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, as Egypt’s new Prime Minister less than an hour after news emerged that the government had resigned.

Egypt’s cabinet, led by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb, had resigned and submitted its resignation papers to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

The resignation, which included all cabinet members, was accepted by President Sisi on Saturday morning. However, the President ordered the cabinet to continue carrying out their duties until a new cabinet is formed.

The surprise resignation comes days after Egypt’s Agriculture Minister resigned and was arrested amid allegations of corruption.

The reason behind the resignation remains unclear. Egypt’s cabinet was expected to resign after Parliamentary elections are held in October and November, paving the way for a cabinet to be formed by the new Parliament.

I remember when the whole Arab Spring thing took hold in Egypt.

95% of the world was cheering their pursuit of “Freedom”. I was among the 5% saying that something didn’t smell right and sure enough the Super Muzzie Brothers came to power.

When one allows the riff raff to run the shop, it will always fail. The coup was about extermination of the riff raff.

The same course will follow in Syria once it gets sorted out

I think Al Sisi is a step up from Mubarak.

His early life and education are an indication of him being different than most muslim leaders.

Abdulla II of Jordan is another “Westernized” leader.

Years ago, late 70’s and the 80’s, I followed the doings of Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia as he attended functions as an invited speaker. One of his themes was that the task ahead for the Arabs was to modernize but not to westernize. To me that was a difficult exercise to attempt much less implement.

I have met and worked with several young (then) saudis that were American educated but Saudi to the core. They were not the wacko rag heads most here believe all are. They were in line to take control of businesses founded by ancient relatives and now run by fathers and uncles. About two years ago, I met a very young Saudi electrical engineer...... a real hands on engineer. twenty years ago he was a virtual impossibility, but there he was working in America on a very large Saudi project.

These people exist all over the Gulf States and Jordan and Egypt. They will prevail against what in my mind is an Islamic counter reformation that will ultimately fail.

This business of distinguishing between the two, modernization and westernization, amounts to cultural evolution. As Americans we are caught up in a similar cultural evolutionary strain between those that want America to be America and those that want America to be Europe.

Personally I can’t understand why anyone would want to be a fundamentalist muslim. It just seems like a life of perpetual brutality enforced by an equally brutal society.

Its why guys like Al Sisi and Abdulla II are so important. They refuse to accept that brutality as a normal part of life. About 10 years ago Abdulla decreed that honor killings of wives and daughters would result in murder trials. Men still do it in Jordan and many are found innocent but it happens less often and was a positive step forward.
