The Wisconsin governor who's known for taking on unions in his home state is holding the event Monday afternoon at XTreme Manufacturing.

He said he'll discuss his plan to transfer power from union bosses to taxpayers. He said the strategy includes preventing the government from deducting union dues from federal employees' paychecks.

Las Vegas is home to powerful labor groups, including the Culinary Union that represents some 55,000 casino workers.

Union membership is as low as it’s been since WWII. When unions were stronger, the middle class was better.

I belong to a Union I do IT admin for a state agency. I get better pay, health insurance and wages and retirement than I did when I worked harder in restaurant kitchens without union support.

I’m not convinced that unions are responsible for the downfall of the US economy. I’m a long way from a leftist, but I believe labor unions have a place in America.

Were you in government or private sector?
Do you know the massive difference between a government union and a private sector union?

You’re right and TSA (border/invasion) and Obamacare will EXPLODE union ranks (and Democrat funding).

The key to your comment is “city, county, state”.

Wisconsin’s Act 10 did not ban voluntary union membership.

Dream on. Walker is on a race to the bottom. As inept as he has been on the campaign trail, I am left to wonder just who is calling the shots in Wisconsin. I can't be him.

Never said that it did. What I am saying is unions have their place. Privatized government contracts that go out end up in someone pocketing a lot of cash and some contractor paid without benefits doing the work.

People are getting rich off of privatization of what used to be solid middle-class jobs. the management skims the money and pays service level non-benefit jobs to contractors. I don’t see how that helps the economy more than solid steady jobs.

Walker has been addressing those issues too.

And people have stopped paying attention to him. So why does he think that speaking out on what is not of even a remote concern to the overwhelming majority of people are suddenly going to make people sit up and take notice? It's like, "Hey! Look at me! I got the unions mad at me once!" His one claim-to-fame.

I was in government, federal agency. What I know from over three decades of management is that there are abuses on both sides, management and employees.

I knew of managers who violated contracts on a regular basis. I also fired union employees who violated those agreements.

I was told more than once by the highest levels of management to do things that I knew violated our contracts and I always told them that I would follow a direct order if they put it into writing. They always backed down when I told them that.

Once the employees knew I would stand up for the contract, I had very few problems supervising union employees. If I had been a craft employee, seeing the abuses and willful violations by some managers, I would have joined a union, too.

They had some of those too. The protests lasted for months in Wisconsin - then Walker survived a recall election (only gov who has), and Wisconsin conservatives (and Walker) endured a 5 year secret John Doe investigation (was just tossed by the state Supreme Court).

Month by month breakdown: 2011 Wisconsin protests

What you don’t understand then is the imbedded and inherent evil in even allowing government unions.

To not understand this is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE blind spot. Public sector unions are immoral, unethical, oxymoronic and unsustainable.

Do you have any idea why?

I like Scott, Cruz, and Carson. I am not sure about Trump because he doesn’t talk about the importance of liberty and God given rights.

I remember when FR was a true conservative site.......not that long ago....now it’s just a destroy the GOP e at ANY cost site. Not that it’s not tempting, but since most people didn’t like the GOP e because they were not conservative, just seems kinda silly to throw out conservatism while destroying the GOP e.

Just sayin....

Walker is saying he would prevent those dues from being deducted even if the employee voluntarily joined a union?

Is that a problem for you?

There is a FR thread on how to write a good Opus. This one is a reject but keep trying. :-)

Please point to one thing Trump is hawking for support, that is Leftist in nature.

Those words you wrote were well written. They just didn’t address reality.

Trump is hawking Conservatism. Illegal immigration, the military, Obamacare, Welfare, Education, Energy Policy...

You folks need to wake up and smell the Conservatism.

Be happy someone is pitching it to the nation as loudly as Trump is.
