From 1965 until around 2000, I subscribed to National Geographic - until I could no longer tolerate the Liberal Propaganda and cancelled.

It isn't a science journal anymore, same as Science and other major liberal science propaganda rags.

Seeing that Faux News is increasingly going off the left deep end, Murdoch will likely continue the liberalism of National Geographic. If Faux is any measuring stick, expect its far-left zealotry to go even further in that direction.

Best endearing, haunting cover - 1985 (and follow up story years later was also captivating)

If you want anything beyond weather reports, top 40 and horrible people discussing sports, public radio is pretty much the only game in town.

Public radio -- it's a class thing. All fourteen of their listeners agree.

The month prior to the 2004 election....came the global warming edition. Every single page...every article...all dedicated to global warming. For roughly ten years I’d been a subscriber to the magazine. I wrote a simple eight line text and noted that I quit. It was a blatant effort to affect the outcome of the election.

Oddly, after that point, I even came to note the same behavior of Readers Digest and quit them.

I agree, if you go back to prior the mid 1990s....it was still a geographical magazine and worth reading. It flipped over and became simple garbage.

The amount paid? 725 million is listed for the Murdoch deal. What they are getting? It’d be curious....if they revert back to the old standard....tens of thousands of people would re-engage with the subscription business.

Yes, I was going to say that this Salon author seems to be under the mistaken belief that National Geo was always the globalwarming fruit loop magazine.
I read it for years too until it was taken over by loons

...(manmade) climate change denier...

Yeah, me too.

I also deny that left is right, down is up and bad is good.

Just keepin' it real; ya know?

Maybe it’ll go back to being the fine non-partisan magazine of my youth?

I got almost 2 paragraphs in before I realized I was reading complete pap from a leftist jerk.

I must be slipping or maybe it’s just getting too late.

This is about National Geographic print. Murdoch already owns Nat Geo TV.

All of Murdoch's visual media holdings are held in 21st Century Fox and his print assets are held in NewsCorp.

A good example of this was/is Cosmos. The original Cosmos was Carl Sagan via PBS.

The new Cosmos(2014) with Neil Tyson was financed by Seth McFarlane but produced by 21st Century Fox and was aired by both Fox Network and the Nat Geo Channel..

This week, covered extensively by the media, was/is Dawn of Humanity, which was co-produced by Nat Geo TV and PBS Nova that aired on PBS Nova on Wednesday and available on the PBS website yesterday.

I’m happy about this.

Except now I’m not. Because Murdoch is not supporting conservatives.

Murdoch is supporting BUSH.

I am no longer supporting any Murdoch venture. It’s a shame too, I’m relearning television, without watching any Fox channels.

Shame on Fox.

“From 1965 until around 2000, I subscribed to National Geographic”

You lasted longer than me. I quit reading the crap they spewed out around 1979 when it became very apparent that the magazine had morphed into a liberal mouthpiece rather than the founding bedrock of geographical exploration and science.

Once in awhile in a doctor’s office I will run across an issue and pick it up to see if any change had occurred and find out...NOPE!

The lib media is worried about editorial integrity? LMAO!

I have a tree falling in the woods type question:

If I buy cable tv and never even plug in the tv, does the liberal media still get paid?

“If we don’t figure out how to give more support to public and non-profit media, there’s no guarantee that the next “Sesame Street”—or, for that matter, the next National Geographic—will even get off the ground.”

So government financed TV guarantees that the next Sesame Street or Nat Geo will get off the ground? Wow what arrogance. Of course the author will be glad to tell us what should be financed.

Liberals of course believe the 1st means “right to be heard” which means someone has to be forced to pay for their idiotic speech. They just haven’t yet figured out hot to make us listen, and then respond according to their wishes. But they are getting around to it.

“A bastion of popular science is now controlled by a very prominent climate change denier”

well, well, well... the propaganda of the leftist progressives might be challenged. GOOD science is ALWAYS about challenging the status quo. The arrogance of the LEFTist scientists has stymied real research into climate change for far too long. Maybe “real” science will be placed on the pages of this once awesome magazine.
