As Florida enviros push for their solar amendment, solar’s undesirability goes unmentioned.
The important thing to know about solar and wind power, and other so-called “renewable” sources of energy, is that they aren’t necessary. Au the contraire, their dominance of the energy mix would be a disaster for the republic. Solar and wind create trifling amounts of power at a multiple of the cost of power made available by fossil fuels.
Increased reliance on pricy power from wind and solar would drive up the overall cost of energy, which in turn would drive up the cost of everything. EVERYTHING! Not just individual power bills, which would be bad enough. It takes energy to produce, transport, and market all the goods Americans take for granted. Even our service economy is a heavy user of energy.
Wind and solar power are also unreliable. The sun doesn’t always shine and the wind doesn’t always blow. This isn’t going to change.
In a dystopian wind and solar economy, say goodbye to the supermarket, to pain-free dentistry, to air-conditioning, to the modern hospital, to night baseball. While you’re up, take the hood off your car and make it into a planter because you’ll no longer afford to drive it. A fossil-fuel-free America would become, in short order, a third-world country. Life would once again become nasty, brutish, and short. Or at least a damn sight more straitened than the prosperity contemporary Americans are used to and take as a given.
There is enough oil and gas underground in America to supply energy needs for centuries, if the Sierra Club and other Lexus Luddites would allow us to use it. The problems associated with the burning of fossil fuels have been grossly exaggerated by the political Left for ideological reasons. Those who identify themselves as environmentalists slander fossil fuels...

However, the crony capitalist is always at the ready to cash in.
All the article says is true.....we are converting our home to solar right now, however - but it’s got nothing to do with thinking the nation needs a major solar program. It’s that we would like to be “off the grid” and not subject to hurricane and wind power outages (we live on the coast) - and it will enhance the value of our home significantly as well.
That’s the “conservative” reason to personally go solar. But as for a national policy? Nothing but cronyism and a waste.

President Obama laid out his new plan to tackle global warming Tuesday. In 2008, he made comments about “bankrupting” coal plant owners and making energy prices “skyrocket.”
“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted,” Obama said during a meeting with the San Francisco Chronicle’s editorial board.
“Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad,” he added. “Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to, uh, retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.” ...”

Of course, cap and trade is long dead. But coal-fired power plants are powering down nationwide, and they are blaming the Obama Environmental Protection Agency. The president’s critics say proposed greenhouse gas regulations for future power plants are designed to cripple the coal industry.
And just like with another 2008 quote — Energy Secretary Steven Chu’s famed call to “figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe” — Republicans say the Chronicle clip shows what’s really in the president’s heart, that high electricity prices and the death of coal have always been Obama’s goal.

They are busy shoving solar down our throats in Maryland. It’s sad to see homes with solar cells on the roof. On a 1-10 scale for solar efficiency, Maryland is only a 5. That’s not worth even considering.
Plus, how many of these people are going up on their pitched roofs every couple weeks to wash the glass?

Fossil fuels ARE solar energy. It’s been stored in the earth for many hundreds of moons. God is all his wisdom created the science and logics. He started preparing for mankind thousands of years ago.

Together, Tesla, SolarCity, and SpaceX have benefited from more than $4.9 billion in subsidies, tax credits, grants, and payments, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Musk has continually promised Tesla and SolarCity are moving toward self-sufficiency. That’s a lie. They are creatures of and supported by government largesse..................

Solar works fine for “off the grid” applications, with another charging method for back up. Solar utilities....not so much.
Personally, I’d like to see more solar-cell homes, and with passive solar heat. It works.
Solar and wind are good for backups and to cut costs when conditions allow them to function well. But as the article states, they are not dependable.
Bonus! The US becomes bird and bat free! Yippee.
In most parts of the country the solar resources are insufficient, and if it were private money being spent, that research would be the greatest factor. Now it’s the gummint incentive.
Got a call from a solar vendor this weekend. I was told that with the credits I would get from my energy company and the governments subsidy would just about pay the entire cost of the installation. It would then only cost me $20 a month in connection fees. In addition, I could sell back any unused power which could offset the $20 as well as possibly put money in my pocket.
When something sounds too good to be true, it usually isn’t. First off, with all the subsidies and other things paid for by you the taxpayer, my out of pocket costs on the initial installation would still be between $8-11,000. That means I won’t start seeing any savings for 12-15 years.
So, the solar vendor gets their money. The energy company gets their money. The government doesn’t care because it isn’t their money in the first place. The only people who get screwed from this is the dumb schmuck who decides to go solar and the taxpayer who is on the hook for the money.
Side note. I asked the vendor about hail damage, since I am in the middle of hailstorm alley. The response was, I would need to take that up with my insurance company. I then asked what happens if my panes are destroyed by hail and I have no power. How long would it take to get someone to fix it and what do I do in the meantime. Response was, as quickly as possible and I would get reconnected to the grid at a premium.

Then there’s always the very obvious problem with solar & wind..they are not capable of giving us what we need without the backup of conventional power sources. Why do we want to spend money for both when only one will really do the job?
yes, that’s it’s best application, and the only one that appeals to a conservative independent mind set. And yes, gotta have those generators for back up.
What would your homeowner’s insurance premium be if they have to replace broken solar cells? I live in a known hail area,too,& my premium & deductibles went way up even with no solar.
If you’re a tinkerer, you can run an engine with lots of different “junk” fuels. Used motor oil, antifreeze (GEET) wood chips/scraps (gasifier) methane from a digester.
The captured exhaust heat can also make hot water.
