On Sept. 9, Queen Elizabeth II will become the longest reigning British monarch, surpassing the record held previously by her great-great grandmother, Victoria, who reigned for 63 years, 216 days. Victoria became Queen June 20, 1837 and died Jan. 22, 1901. Allowing for leap years and the time of day at which each monarch was told of the death of their predecessor, it has been calculated that Queen Elizabeth will pass that landmark time at around 5:30 p.m. in the U.K. or 12:30 p.m. EST. Elizabeth II became queen on the death of her father, George VI, Feb. 6, 1952. Her father was only 56 when he died of lung cancer.

Long may she reign. At a minimum to keep Chuck off the throne.

Years ago someone posted an article about the queen working as a mechanic in WWII. Most interesting stuff with pix too.
She's a heck of a gal for a blueblood.

I'm not generally a fan of royals, but God bless her. During WW II her parents didn't run from London during the Blitz. They stayed, and took their chances like everyone else. And Elizabeth herself trained as a driver and mechanic in the Women's Auxiliary.

Her hubbie’s a prince and their son is a prince.
Their son’s son is a prince and now she has a great grandson who is a prince.
So the Windsors are four deep in princes. Henry VIII must be spinning like a top.

In 1933, it wasn’t known as “the Nazi salute”. It goes back to the Roman era, the Nazis just tainted it.

Also the British monarch presiding over perhaps the most sustained and fundamental decline of the country but thats okay since its not like she has any real power.

Little did Henry know, but he didn’t need a prince since he produced a great princess and queen.

In 1933, it wasnt known as the Nazi salute. Right you are! In fact, before WW II such a salute was quite often used as a patriotic salute to the American flag.
