Ted Cruz to Mitch McConnell: Don’t schedule legislation to fund Planned Parenthood
Washington Post ^ | September 4 | Katie Zezima

Posted on 09/06/2015 2:30:48 PM PDT by Isara

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), who is taking a lead role in a campaign to end taxpayer support for Planned Parenthood, will send Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a letter next week urging him not to schedule a vote on or help push legislation that gives federal money to the organization.

The letter, which is in draft form and circulating around the Senate for signatures, is Cruz's first official action against the organization in the new Senate session, which starts Tuesday. It comes as McConnell said this week that Congress won't be able to stop government money from going to Planned Parenthood.

"In light of recent and horrific revelations that Planned Parenthood is trafficking in fetal tissue and body parts from abortions, we urge you not to schedule or facilitate the consideration of any legislation that authorizes or appropriates federal dollars for Planned Parenthood," a draft of Cruz's letter reads.

Cruz said he would try to defund Planned Parenthood in July after the release of hidden-camera videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the donation of fetal tissue in a seemingly cavalier fashion.

"The callous view that those in the abortion industry, like Planned Parenthood, take toward women and unborn children is an affront to natural rights and human decency," the draft reads.

---

The Texas Republican's role in the campaign to defund Planned Parenthood comes as he is looking to harness the support of social conservatives and evangelical Christians in his presidential campaign. Cruz is taking a lead role in a nationwide campaign to have pastors urge their congregants to call their elected officials and urge them to stop taxpayer money from going to Planned Parenthood.

The only thing I like about the Fox debate last month was watching Cruzs’ little girls mobbing him after the debate. Cruz is a good man, but I will be voting Trump.

There are more important things out there than Trump. We are trying to save the innocent unborn here. Trump still wants to 'partially' fund PP.

This government is unconstitutional and a crime syndicate. Cruz may appear to have the “S” on his chest but the leviathan of this corrupt institution is fueled by the people who prop it up. We are beyond all of the Declaration of Independence grievances. We are in revolutionary and civil war criteria. This country is dying by a thousand cuts and will go out with a whimper if nothing is done. This goes for Western civilization in general. This is all very agonizing to watch.

“I support Trump 100% but this is something Cruz is good at, he’s a Senator and he’s taking down another one of his own, that is great!!!”

Cruz takes action to address issues. Trump spouts off to get media attention.

Is there any way we the people can get rid of boner and turtle???

Do you think Hatch of Utah would let Lee of Utah join in with Cruz? Not on your life, Lee’s position would be all over but the crying...

I don’t know about the others, there should be a way WE can do this...

That’s why Trump and Cruz are a good team. Trump is the salesman that can get attention in ways Cruz cannot.

This chart is bogus regarding Trump on some of the issues. He has repeatedly said he is pro 2nd Amendment and he is for free trade - just not for getting our clocks cleaned by every other country. He has also come out to repeal obamacare and offered some good alternatives. I don’t trust this chart at all.

Over the past year I have lost a lot of respect for Cruz because he is simply tilting at windmills and has only failure after failure. I have no respect for the martyr.

So you expect Ted Cruz and Mike Lee to STOP tilting at windmills..

AND THEN; there will ZERO Opposition to these CRIMES?..
NONE... the only backdraft in the Senate is by THEM..

SOooo you want them to STOP making “ the Point” .. keeping the ISSUES ALIVE...

SO.... the democrats and RINOs will have open season, free reign, no opposition, for the rubber stamp.?.

Are you a democrat?..

These are legal rulings he has won. There is nothing here to suggest executive experience. He is a lawyer, and a great one, but, this does not qualify him to be a president.

Some of you are delusional. No way are they going to vote and elect a 2-year junior Senator as Majority leader. It isn’t going to happen. I suspect this is why he isn’t polling better either - barry was a junior senator with no executive experience and has made a mess out of this country. I know Cruz is smarter and more conservative, but I don’t think people want to risk another youngun at the helm.

Very good point. Cruz has lots of experience, it is just not translating well and after Obama, it definitely is not enough.

And this letter from Cruz will go nowhere. Old turtle neck will ignore it and the majority of the Senators will go along with him on it. Trump can’t do anything about it - stupid - he isn’t in office. It doesn’t matter who speaks out against this - congress has ignored us every step of the way on every issue.

OK, I like Ted, a LOT.
He’s brilliant, conservative, and focused.

But I didn’t know FR was now the place for official/ semi-official campaigning.

The over the top continual posting of copy and paste campaign material is quite honestly disturbing.

Discuss? Yes, constantly and openly.
Campaign? Rubs me wrong, sorry.
