The cable news networks are all breathlessly reporting that after a one-on-one meeting with Reince Priebus, Donald Trump has signed a pledge in which he promises to support the eventual Republican nominee, regardless of who it might be. I am sure that in the corridors of the RNC national headquarters, they are all slapping themselves on the back confident that eventually Trump will fade away and that they have averted a third party disaster.
In the first place, I dont think they have accomplished any such thing. I dont think its a foregone conclusion anymore that Trump will ever fade away the length of his stay at the top suggests an actual level of staying power rather than a momentary fling. But moreover, if Trump wants to run third party, he will run third party. This pledge will do nothing to stop him from doing so, or from throwing the election to Hillary if he does.

As soon as the GOPe turn on him, and they will, that is the time to declare a third party.
NOT after the primary, where it just looks like sour grapes.
Hopefully, Cruz will go with him.
Everyone can see enough is enough.
The threat was to remove him from the ballot in several states.
Hi, Star. Proust, at #5, was the first to bring up the oddity of Redstate printing anything close to defending Trump. Confusing isn’t it? Anyway, the Redstate editor, Eric Erickson, oversees the conservative website and he also hosts an annual event for the conservative candidates to appear, in Georgia, I think, some southern state. This year he dis-invited Trump because Trump was too mouthy.
Now, this defense of Trump article comes out on the Redstate website. It surprised a lot of us. That’s about it.
A valid pledge requires honor on the part of both parties
I see no dishonor in Trump holding a public bonfire to burn that pledge if the RNC screws him
“....they cooked up the pledge ruse to sucker the other 16 into signing a non-agression pact with Trump, and then the GOPee ride his coattails...” ————————
Personally speaking, I don’t think they are that perceptive! Ha! I believe Rinse was pushed around to make a stand against Trump on this pledge business, by the money men running the place who are losing their power to Trump. They were hoping to derail Trump. Trump has played that leverage and that independent card long enough to get so far out in front of the field in the polls, that he doesn’t even need that card anymore. LOL! Splendid!
Only listening to the presser, it seemed very bizarre as if his RNC membership card and secret decoder ring finally came in the mail so he had to show it off to all the neighbor kids. A much stronger stance would have been to pull a rope-a-dope with Prebus and use the opportunity to say he would sign a pledge when the RNC actually stands behind the platform they were elected by.
My first thought when he refused to sign the pledge was...
So what!
LOL
RedState appears more and more to be a proxy and shill.
/bingo
The Jeb fans in Virginia and North Carolina were threatening to keep Trump off the ballot — good luck with keeping their heads, in the figurative sense, if they’d pulled that — and he just calm as a cup of water gave his pledge. Now the Democrat in all but name, and demagogue, Rand Paul, will be in a position of having to do the same, or to follow in his equally stupid father’s footsteps and endorse some weirdo like Ralph Nader and Cynthia whats-her-name.
Watch your six, Donald. I do not trust the GOPe.
