The Republican party has ineffectual leadership in congress who pander to the media and do nothing except get along. The media portrays Republican leadership going after the conservative wing of their party. Trump comes along and doesn’t care if the media is friendly. Goes after his enemies. Rush been saying for years media is not our friend and I agree. Boner n Mitch are pissing the win in the election away. Trump might be the devil but he acts like a leader and Republicans really need a leader. The GOP base is disenchanted with the party's conventional political figures as Presidential candidates this year because of the failure of such types to even attempt to carry out their promises in Congress or to treat the GOP base with respect. Now Trump comes along and echoes the concerns of the GOP base on illegal immigration and America's economic and strategic decline.

As the alternative to the GOP's conventional candidates for President, Trump seems pretty good, as do Carson and Fiorina, who are also outsiders and rising in the polls. When the whole bushel of apples has gone rotten, it makes sense to go to the tree to pick some fresh ones and overlook superficial scars and blemishes.

As for Trump praising Charley Rangel, it is easy enough to imagine him having had business reasons for doing so given that Rangel is a powerful local member of the US House. And changing party registration may well have had the same business motives in that Trump had to deal with deeply partisan Democrats in office and in the bureaucracy.

I think Trump was playing the field in 1999, sucking up to the Democratic “elite” to get building permits, union concessions, and other things in ‘rat infested cities, kind of like what all the other business people have to do. He has a ton of money now, but will never be the richest man in the world. So instead, he wants to be POTUS, arguably the most powerful man in the world. He has goals, other than party perpetuation, which is a big plus in my book. His ego is big enough that he wants to be listed with Washington, Lincoln, FDR, JFK, and Reagan. I think he does have an agenda to fix things, rather than just go along with the political class. Let him wheel and deal for the US. At least he’ll “want” to win.
