Russia Puts Boots on the Ground in Syria against ISIS

Russia Puts Boots on the Ground in Syria

....Several sources consulted for this story said the Pentagon is being unusually cagey about Russia’s reinvigorated role in Syria. A former U.S. military officer told The Daily Beast, “I’m being told things like, ‘We really can’t talk about this.’ That indicates to me that there’s some truth to these allegations.”

Some of them are verifiable. On Aug. 22, the Bosphorus Naval News website showed the Alligator-class Russian ship Nikolai Filchenkov, part of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, two days earlier passing through Istanbul’s famed waterway en route to an unknown location in the Mediterranean (hint, hint).

But what was remarkable about the Filchenkov was that military equipment was visible on deck—namely, Kamaz trucks and, judging by the tarpaulin outlines, at least four BTR infantry fighting vehicles. (This doesn’t include any matériel that might have been stored in the ship’s below-deck cargo hold.) ......

But what’s most intriguing is what the National Defense Force’s official media arm might have accidentally disclosed in one of its broadcast “news reports” from the Latakia front. The channel exhibited the fighting vehicle in action but also captured unmistakable Russian spoken in the background; Russian that was giving military instruction to the crew of the BTR-82A. Here’s a translation:

2:03: “Come on, quickly!”

2:06: “Throw!”

2:10: “Again! Do it again!”

2:30: “Peacock, Peacock, we are moving out.”

“Peacock” likely refers to a call sign for a Russian soldier; i.e., whoever’s operating the armored vehicle. Given that the BTR-82A was firing in the video, this was either a training exercise caught on tape or (more likely) footage from active combat operations. It’s certainly compelling evidence that Russians have embedded with the Syrian military.

When will Obama call in American troops to help defend ISIS?

Obama wanted to aid the side that fights with ISIS as did McCain. There are no white hats in this. Even the Kurds, who we cheer a guerrilla army that espouses Marxist views (which maybe better than Islamist views these days).

1. In the Russian media there is nothing about this.

2. I would like Putin (or any other nation's leader) to have sent troops to kick ISIS away from Palmyra. An airborne descent operation with air supply afterwards. It's a shame that world powerful nations haven't moved to save it from the barbarians.

The Assad regime is out of soldiers. They had no choice but to get help from their patrons.

I would not be surprised. And I hear you about what was done at Palmyra (and all over) by these animals. But the USA and the Gulf Arab Sunni states and Israel rather have Assad fall than fight with him against ISIS. Are we still pretending the so called Free Syrian Army are moderates in Washington?

A bedrock of US foreign policy in the Middle East for the last 60 years was to keep Russia out.

Russian troops fighting alongside Assad, maybe. But against ISIS? Where’s the evidence for that? There are a whole bunch of rebel groups and ISIS’ power base is well away from where the Assad regime is - more likely they’re fighting other groups.

Russia wouldn’t do this....unless it was paid as a service...likely from the Saudis. In recent months, the Saudis have come to realize the bigger issue is ISIS and they need to be put down. The only military thug-Army left....is Russia. It would be curious to know the actual number involved.

Based on Israeli news source. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4696268,00.html Russia has begun its military intervention in Syria, deploying an aerial contingent to a permanent Syrian base, in order to launch attacks against ISIS and Islamist rebels; US stays silent.

This is what happens when the U. S. arms terrorists, then withdraws from a region. All we forgot to do was send the official invitation card to Vlad. Well, actually, who knows? With Obama Vlad may have gotten a formal invitation.

Obama is not only micromanaging nukes for Iran, he’s managed to pull Russia into the region.

This won’t bode well, but some FReepers will be happy that area burns as long as we aren’t there.

We’re about to see how things can get a lot worse when we aren’t.

Russia that close to Israel, is not a good thing for the low of mind.

I never thought of that....instead of payment could the Saudis have agreed to raise the price of crude - I am hearing hints that the Saudis will constrict the flow of oil to boost prices now...
