An assistant attorney general asked Friday for a state ethics commission ruling on whether former Gov. Martin O'Malley's purchase of furniture from the governor's mansion violated rules regarding state-owned property.
When O'Malley and his family moved out of the mansion in January, they left with most of its taxpayer-purchased furnishings 54 items that he bought at steep discounts because every piece had been declared "junk" by his administration.
O'Malley and his wife, Baltimore District Judge Catherine Curran O'Malley, paid $9,638 for armoires, beds, chairs, desks, lamps, mirrors, ottomans, tables and other items that originally cost taxpayers $62,000, according to documents obtained by The Baltimore Sun.
The Department of General Services sold the furniture to the O'Malleys, who together earned $270,000 in state salaries last year, without seeking bids or notifying the public that the items were available for sale.

2)When leaving office, they have it all declared junk and then buy it all for $9,000, taking it with them to their brand new home.
3) O'Malley says, "so what?"
Flashback:
Democrat = Thief
Film at eleven.
Hillary and O’Malley for prison 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gee, this couldn’t be convenientl political timing, in an effort to remove O’Malley from the Dem presidential candidacy, would it?
Naw, the Clinton machine wouldn’t do that...
Martin O’Malley a Hillary Clinton wannabe!
One thing you should understand Martin, like obama Hillary has a special dispensation on lawlessness, you are not qualified for special treatment.
That sounds like about what they would get at auction for that furniture.
Used contemporary furniture that is ten years old is a very tough sell. You can get a piece that is one or two years old for 20-30% of retail, if you want to buy used furniture.
“Et tu quoque”, replied Mrs. Clinton.
Democratic (Hillary’s minions!) government investigators real anxious to investigate THIS particular scandal aren’t they?
While ignoring Hillary’s email, Obola’s IRS and FBI and DOJ and ATF scandals .....
The governor of Maryland is currently Republican Larry Hogan.
They probably didn’t get these from Rooms R Us.
From the cobwebs of 1980s, I seem to recall that congresscritters were doing the same thing with their quality office furniture, usually the desk hand carved out of teak or ebony with ivory inlays and gold-leaf accents...
Could also be Hillary or the President sucking the dogs on Presidential hopefuls that were not invited.
Any politician who takes so much as a roll of toilet paper, is stealing from the taxpayers.
$4000 armoires should not be ‘junk’ after just 8 years. I have a hutch from the 1960s that is still in perfect condition.
I am not saying they are junk. They are worth about $500 on the open market, which is a substantial amount of money for most people.
They how do they get $4000 for them when new? The fancy furniture business is based mostly on looks and flattering rich people. The customers know nothing about quality furniture construction. They can build the pieces in China for $200-300, and ship them here for another $100. If they don’t sell for $4000, they can have a half-price sale and still make money.
Look on Craigslist for a major metro area. Furniture for sale by owner, high price first. You will find that $5000 will get you $25,000 worth of two-year-old furniture with a fancy nameplate on it. That’s a buyer’s market.
They go after O’Malley the day after he public rips the DNC for rigging the nomination process?
Not the point. I was saying there was no reason to replace them.
