$4000 armoires should not be ‘junk’ after just 8 years. I have a hutch from the 1960s that is still in perfect condition.

I am not saying they are junk. They are worth about $500 on the open market, which is a substantial amount of money for most people.

They how do they get $4000 for them when new? The fancy furniture business is based mostly on looks and flattering rich people. The customers know nothing about quality furniture construction. They can build the pieces in China for $200-300, and ship them here for another $100. If they don’t sell for $4000, they can have a half-price sale and still make money.

Look on Craigslist for a major metro area. Furniture for sale by owner, high price first. You will find that $5000 will get you $25,000 worth of two-year-old furniture with a fancy nameplate on it. That’s a buyer’s market.
