I have to say, after watching 2 full rally speeches from Mr. Trump, I have to say this simply...

While ideologically he certainly is not as conservative as many would like, unless something drastically changes, this election is his to lose and its not hard to see why.

He is the only person taking on the press and calling out the horrific stupidity of the political class for all the crap that has been going on for decades without restraint.

Lots of time to go in this cycle, but no flub, or gotcha press nonsense is going to take him out, the RNC and GOPe have no shot of taking him out.

Gerald Ford

Jimmy Carter

George HW Bush

Bill Clinton

George W Bush

Barack Hussein Obama

Or any of the other candidates for President that failed.

There is no way in the world that Trump could be any worse than those listed above. But he could be a helluva lot better. Maybe not as great as Ronald Reagan but great in his own way.

I don’t see any establishment candidate (at least the ones out there currently, maybe there is someone they are saving to pull out of their hat later) having any chance, I know its politics and anything can happen, but I honestly don’t see it.

I can’t say ideological he’s my first choice, and yes even his rally speeches I have seen, are disjointed and rambling, but they are honest, he’s connecting. Yes, to a certain extent there is a cult of personality going on, and he certainly is a celebrity that gets him attention, but there is something real going on with him and that’s something no one else on either side of the isle has or will have.

He is connecting, and he’s connecting on a very simple concept and he is coming across completely genuine when he talks about it. In other times in our history I would write him off, but given how horrifically badly the entire political class on both sides of the isle has screwed the pooch, he’s going to get a wide berth, so no little slip up or mistake is going to take him out, and no traditional politician is going to be able to take him down, because he is being fearless about his criticisms, he’s not couching them or worrying if someone gets upset, he’s calling a spade a spade as he sees it, and that makes it impossible for a traditional politician in the modern age to take him on because they all are intrinsic in their being to avoid confrontation not embrace it.

I too like Cruz but am afraid that he would be smeared as an extremist (like Goldwater) and lose to Hillary/Biden big time. Trump, on the other hand, would get a lot of Democrat votes, just as Reagan did, and would be odds on favorite to win the general election.

His policy ideas, opinions and experiences are much more apparent and more insightful in his CNN and MSNBC sit-down interviews than anything we are seeing of him on FOX.

His interviews and rallies are getting covered start to finish as opposed to FOX giving him the business with fits and starts and commercials, and sound bites. Trump’s more presidential like thoughtfulness and disposition is starting to show, in these quieter and more serious interview venues over the past couple of weeks.

In fact, the Morning Joe crowd and interviewer Mark Halprin all agreed Trump has turned the corner on looking presidential! Can you believe THAT? MSNBC? Mark and Jon Heidleman had just interviewed Trump, at Trump Towers yesterday or so. It was an informative exchange.

His rally persona is a different thing, but his interviews on the policy side are now where he is beginning to put some “meat on the bones”.

Agreed, and people find it refreshing to see someone...ANYONE...stand up to the liberals. The GOP has been leaning across the isle so long we conservatives can no longer see any difference between the GOP and the liberal Democrats. The GOP has lost its spine and will not fight for us conservatives any more. Conservatives feel disenfranchised because the GOP will sell us out in a heartbeat if they think it will get them reelected. While I'm not sure Trump has a chance for the nomination, I for one am enjoying seeing him punch the liberals in the nose and calling them on their lies.

This is my opinion, only. Many are saying Trump rambles. He is not specific, etc. IMHO that really doesn't matter at this stage of the game.

Question: At this stage of the game, why would he want to be so specific to give his opponents ammunition to use against him. If he become the candidate, then that is the time to bring forth in detail the specifics.

Right now he has to do what it takes to win the nomination. IMHO!

I have not yet picked my horse in the race for President because IMO it's still far, far too early but I will say this:

I frankly like the fact that Trump is scaring the living sh*t out of both the D's and the R's. While I don't agree with Trump on everything, I do like the fact that he at least makes it plain what he's thinking.

Is he changing his stance on some things? Yes. There's plenty of history of Trump's statements out there where he says something one day, and the opposite the next. Is he the perfect candidate? No, but he's not taking sh*t from the media and he's pushing back on them and putting them on notice.

I think Trump's alot of fun to watch right now because of the impact he's having on the media and the D's and R's. I look forward to him continuing to make them quake in their boots for at least a few more months.

Shaking up Washington has been a long time in coming and Trump speaks for alot of people who've been disaffected by both political parties.

One last thing: I posted somewhere in the last month or so that Trump's support isn't just coming from the R side of the aisle, and that he in fact had broad based support within the blue collar/blue dog part of the Democrat party. That support is now starting to show up in the polls. Good. Make the D's nervous too!

Rambles? Not specific? I just finished Traitor to His Class by H.W. Brands, and he points out that FDR had no idea what he should do in 1933. He traded in generalities, inspiration, and improvisation. It didn't matter. People wanted a leader. Policy positions and proposals really didn't matter to most people. They wanted to know the government cared about ordinary Americans.

Cruz was my first choice, but face it, he isn’t getting above 7%. I cannot understand why, but its real.

As for Trump not being completely conservative, I care more about honesty than positions now. Ive had far too many people push conservative positions and then simply march in lockstep with Obama.
What they say they are for is meaningless if I do not believe them.

I wasn’t accusing him of lacking specifics, it was not a criticism, it was just an observation, he does tend to ramble at the rally speeches I have watched, and I don’t say that as a bad thing.

He’s rambling because he’s not coached or trained, he’s honestly speaking his thoughts on things, he has obviously some bullet points written on a piece of paper or index card with him, but he’s just laying it out there, which means it is a little rambling and disjointed, it doesn’t mean its bad.

That’s all I was saying when I said he tended to ramble. I don’t see it as a huge liability or problem.

I humbly disagree. Roosevelt had a pretty good idea about what he wanted to do. Primarily, destroy the Republican party and the local political powers of Tammany Hall and others around the major cities. He was able to do that in a very short time and make those political powers beholden to him and his administration.
