How can a serious presidential candidate and a major cable television host be so repeatedly ignorant of such a significant moment in American history?
I dont know. But I do know that both Jeb Bush and Bill OReilly are either attacking Donald Trump (Bush) or challenging him on air (OReilly) seemingly clueless of a seminal moment in American immigration history.
As discussed in this space last week, that moment in history began on June 17, 1954, when, at the personal direction of President Dwight D. Eisenhower the fabled American hero of the D-Day invasion illegal immigrants in America were rounded up and deported back to Mexico. Exactly as Donald Trump is proposing to do today.
First, Jeb Bush.
Famously, Jebs grandfather, Connecticut Republican Senator Prescott Bush, was a staunch friend and supporter of Eisenhowers. Elected to the Senate in 1952, the same year in which his friend Ike was elected president, Senator Bush was a serving U.S. senator throughout the period that Eisenhower launched what was known as, yes indeed, really, Operation Wetback.
On that June 17, 1954, the New York Times, which ran repeatedly positive and enthusiastic articles about Eisenhowers project headlined and wrote this as I have detailed over at NewsBusters :

From the article:
For Jeb Bush not to understand this particularly when his own grandfather was not only a friend and ally of Dwight Eisenhower but a sitting U.S. Senator who apparently went along with his friend Ikes mass deportation is an amazing blind spot for a potential president.
For Bill OReilly to either ignore or not know about Eisenhowers Trump-style deportation is amazing.
But whether Jeb and OReilly know about Ikes Operation Wetback or not, the fact of the matter is that it happened. The fact is that what Donald Trump is suggesting was in fact done by Dwight Eisenhower. It was a big deal. A Very Big Deal. And history records that it worked.
Or they just don’t care.
“For Bill OReilly to either ignore or not know about Eisenhowers Trump-style deportation is amazing.”
I do not find it amazing the BO does not know everything.
With Bill O’Reilly, Geraldo Rivera, and Megyn Kelly on board, Fox is rapidly becoming just one more leftist news source.
In politics & punditry, facts/history don’t matter when it doesn’t fit your agenda - works for the Leftists/Dems/Progs all the time. I believe Jeb does ‘care’, just 180 degrees in the opposite direction from what Ike cared about. As for BORE, since he doesn’t think deportation will work or is reasonable, anything or anybody not agreeing with his opinion is dismissed as irrelevant.
Ike’s way of handling illegals was the way Ike handled problems. He put good people in charge, and they came up with a workable plan, and it worked.
Most freepers haven’t heard of his plan and many make fun of it because of their personal biases.
Read how Ike handled the illegal problem as president. It worked then and will work even better with today’s tools:

The same people that are running Bush and BOR have an agenda - and deporting millions of illegals isn’t part of it.
BO is a self-aggrandizing blowhard bore who is past his prime. Can’t stand to watch him. FOX really has to get some new talent.
Bill OReilly was a tabloid entertainment reporter before he landed the Fox gig. I suspect the only things he knows about history are what his ghost writers on the killing books have told him.
We don’t have to deport a single one - just stop employing them and stop giving them welfare.
The mechanism is already in place to handle this, it’s called “E-Verify,” and most if not all major U.S. corporations already use it to determine immigration status.
I promise you, when they can’t work here, they leave.
Jeb comes from a fairly distinguished New England family.
Neither ought to be considered for the Presidency, or as a pundit on immigration, or ethnology. I do believe that Jeb loves his family--but that is not a qualification for the Presidency.
That Ike was something else, very political, but not a Party Man by any measure.
Ike and The Donald have several things in common, such as decisiveness. Once their minds are made up they marshal the resources to get it done. Both have very realistic no nonsense outlooks and both can effectively learn from their mistakes.
That Trump suggested that Eisenhower did this is a veiled threat. That Trump knew this meant he likely also knew Grandpa Bush was for it.
Bush is running lame now. He should consider dropping out.
Fox has gone over to the dark side, I not longer watch Fox.
Once the wall is up Trump should announce that “The US Government will issue x-thousand Green Cards for Citizens of Mexico this year. The ONLY place where you may file your application is in-person at the US Embassy in Mexico City.”
They’ll self-deport faster than you can say guacamole.

Every time some RINO whines “We can’t deport 12 million people”, I always wonder why the hell not? It doesn’t have to be done in a day; once we build a working fence, we have years to weed out the illegals.
Will Obama’s Social Security number pass E-Verify? NOt that I have heard.
