An administrator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison suggested at a recent roundtable conversation that, in order to combat "overpolicing" in the community, police should no longer respond to shoplifting claims at large stores such as Wal-Mart, and shouldn't agree to prosecute people caught stealing.
"I just don't think that they should be prosecuting cases ... for people who steal from Wal-Mart. I just don't think that, right?" said UW-Madison director of community relations Everett Mitchell. "I don't think [with] Target or all them other places, them big box stores that have insurance, they should be using justification, the fact that people steal from there as justification to start engaging in aggressive police practices, right?"

Moonbats like that are what’s wrong with “higher education” in the USA
Perhaps the director should actually learn how to speak first before airing his stupidity, er opinion.
Everybody in Wisconsin and surrounding states should start crashing in on the courses, and then walking out with “souvenirs”. Bet that will change their idiotic thinking. And these are the people teaching our future.
Beat ya by 2 minutes!
UW-Madison director of community relations Everett Mitchell does not think you should be prosecuted for petty theft.
Find out where he lives and go take whatever you want!

Actually, it was by 10 seconds..I started my post, decided to make it caps and bold, and then the phone rang..darn.....
Ah, further proof (as if this was needed) that the vast majority of virtually every university faculty does not possess the intelligence or common sense of your average house dog. (STEM excepted, of course.)
Remember that when your local sinkhole of taxes and tuition (otherwise known as a university) moans about insufficient funding.
Wow! THEM Wisconsin COLLEGE Administrators . . there they go again! Looter Rooters!
You’d need a handcart to carry off a math or science textbook.
I bet he spent his summer “community organizing” in Ferguson...
Maybe they should visit his house and start taking stuff..........................
Who does this idiot think pays for shoplifting?”
They obviously don’t have a clue. Had a garage sale a couple of weeks ago so that I could get rid of the things I no longer need/use and so I would have some extra money to fix my roof. Just amazed at how many people tried to slip small things in their pockets or purses without paying.

Thanks for the link to the response from the former Pastor, current College Director of Community Outreach:
...I am saddened that those with differing agendas have taken a selective portion of a larger conversation out of context in an effort to discredit my views. My comments around big box retailers were in no way an endorsement of shoplifting or other criminal behavior, but part of a point about how the distribution of police resources to areas with high numbers of misdemeanor crimes can bring low income or people of color into frequent contact with law enforcement....
Of course he is endorsing criminal behavior if he is taking the position that criminal behavior should be condoned. As a former Pastor, why would he even suggest such a thing? Chastisement and corrections serve a purpose.
