All the lady wanted was some chicken. But in shortage-plagued Venezuela, she waited in line five hours, only to go home empty-handed.

"I got here at 5:30 am and came away with nothing! It is just not fair that you have to work so hard -- and then put up with these lines," said an exasperated Lileana Diaz, a 49-year-old receptionist at a hospital emergency room.

Venezuelans have been enduring shortages of the most basic goods, such as toilet paper, for more than a year.

Preppers' PING!!

Valencia has big factories that produce food and other essentials. Still, the list of goods in short supply is long.

It includes coffee, cooking oil, cornmeal, soap, detergent, you name it.

Chicken is one of the most coveted.

Physical fights for the chance to buy diapers.

I suspect this is a problem for with enough cash and time to wait in line for the chance to purchase.

I suspect others are in worse shape...

What do these poor people (I assume they are mostly poor) possess that they can trade or barter with?

All they have is their labor, really.

The more attractive females can leverage their looks, I guess. In that case the ugly will starve.

Congratulations, Venezuela!

You have just created a new job opportunity - professional line-standers. Pay them and they will keep a place in line for you while you go try to scrap up money to pay for the stuff you want.
With the advent of cell phones you can even hire several!

Maybe they just need to Tax the Rich some more, or pass laws that guarantee equal outcomes. Worked well so far!

The is what The Road to Serfdom looks like.

Yet our Left refuses to admit this is the road they would have us follow.

"professional line-standers."

GREAT! Just what we need when it happens here, another job Americans won't do!

Absolutely. The AP reporter still thinks shortages happen in a vacuum and that Liberalism had no part in the problem.

That’s what got them into this mess to begin with. But people never learn. Look at the crows Bernie Sanders draws.

The real problem with professional line standers is that by the time they get to the front of the line your money will be worthless.

What I’d like to know is: are the factories still in production and, if so, where are those products going?

Will Lilianal figure out that Santo Hugo’s socialism is the cause of her discomfort and inconvenience. No, no. It was that Bush and the smell of sulfur.

They voted for socialism.

They got tyranny.

It happens EVERY time.

“Help put me in power and I will give you free stuff!”

“How can I give you free stuff? The world doesn’t work that way. Now get out of the way while I go to my private island.”

Share the wealth programs ultimately end as share the poverty programs.

To make this information more meaningful, I would like to see reporting as to specifically which items are in the most demand; that way smart preppers will stock up on useful things for barter. I would imagine that people are mostly using dollars and barter for exchange, but that information would be important as well.

I look at VZ as a textbook case of societal collapse. Many of these things will be repeated in very similar ways when/if this happens in the US. Of course there will be variations based on climate, culture, local resources, but people generally behave similarly under these conditions.
