Mark Halperin: "Dirty Little Secret" That Kasich Is "Media's Favorite Candidate," Like McCain Was
Real Clear Poltics ^ | August 16,2015

MARK HALPERIN: The establishment wing of the party is going to have to settle on one or two people by March 1st. And I think today, if you look at, again, the four people the establishment talk about, leave Governor Christie aside, Kasich, Bush, Walker, Rubio.

JOHN DICKERSON, FACE THE NATION: How --

HALPERIN: Even Trump hasn't gone after him yet.

NOONAN: True. True.

JAMELLE BOUIE: -- I think there's a sweet spot for Republican presidential candidates and it's basically, I want to cut your taxes, I don't want to stick it to anyone. And I think Kasich hits that perfectly. He wants -- he wants to be responsible. He wants to give your money back. He also wants to make sure low income people can get health care. He wants to make sure the mentally ill can get care. He wants to make sure people in prison can get out and get back to their lives. And that's a combination that is very potent. It's George W. Bush's combination. It's, to an extent, Ronald Reagan's combination. It's the k

FOURNIER: I find him to be right now the most Reagan-esque of the candidates. He's aspirational, he's electable and he's ideological but pragmatic. But I really want the see what happens when Mike Murphy and the Bush pack unloads on him on Obamacare innovation (ph).

NOONAN: Yes.

HALPERIN: And not to take anything away from what Ron said about him and others have said, he's the media's favorite candidate and that is a dirty little secret that it is a big benefit. George Bush was the media's favorite candidate in 2000. McCain was for a time. When you're the media's favorite candidate, you do well.

FOURNIER: And any Republican who --

DICKERSON: Even today, do you think?

HALPERIN: Oh, yes.

Of course, he’s a Democrat in an R jersey without that offensive Bush name.

I said some time ago, to keep your eye on Kasich. I got attacked unmercifully for that statement. I didn’t mean I supported him (he is my governor), but, I think he was pushed to run because the GOP needs Ohio, and Bush was in a downward spiral. He is plan B for the GOP. I think, however, some of his policies are straight out of the DEM playbook.

The media loved McCain because they knew he was a certain LOSER. They kept telling people over and over again that McCain was the only republican that could win. After they had pretty much sewn up the nomination for him, they turned on him. They started telling us how looney he is. They assured an Obama win.

Kasich scares me

He was very good friends with Gary Condit, and left DC not long after that scandal broke.

Some of the media were all ga-ga the day he announced.

I still think FoxNews fudged the numbers to get Kasich to the big debate.

It was curious that he had just announced a few days before, the FoxNews debate was being held in Ohio, and Kasich miraculously got high enough polling to be at the main debate.

Yes of course, and he would be easy to beat by just about any democrat pur up against him.

As Mark Steyn wrote today earlier, Americans are tired of the tedious “my old man carried mail on his back” stories, LOL!

Kasich is such a lightweight. I really worry about Ohioans who elect such awful people as Dennis Kucinich , John Boehner, John Kasich and others. Good grief they need some changes in that state.

Last I checked Cleveland was the same or worse than Detroit or Baltimore in livability if that were possible.

Nothing against Kasich per say but the media…he’s “acceptable” for throat-ramming of the public I guess.

Whoever is weaker than Trump on immigration from here on in is dead to me. That leaves me with Trump, Cruz and Walker. I include Walker because he says they have a plan to unveil soon. That was reported last week. Cruz because I know he’s very conservative and all the right enemies despise him.

Kasich, McCain and Huntsman all have one common denominator: they each hired John Weaver to run their campaigns. Weaver does have the ear of the Washington media types and thus will help spin the message.

Kasich was elected because the other candidates were so awful. He has done some good things here in the state, but, he is a biological Democrat. He spews his daddy was a mailman meme everywhere, when in reality, he is worth $9 million dollars plus. Candidates like to spew this rhetoric to show they are in touch with the common man, when in reality, none of us “common” folks would ever be invited to have lunch with any of them. Trump, on the other hand, is filthy rich and embraces it. He doesn’t hide it from the public, which is refreshing.

Any Republican who is lauded so glowingly by the establishment media would seem very suspect. I don’t know much about Kasich (other than his dad was a mailman).

How much of a RINO is this guy?

Trump also takes kids on helicopter rides and when asked if he is Batman he says “Yes, I am Batman!”.

Trump is going to be loads of fun.

The media likes to prop up week Republican candidates, but once nominated the media tears them apart so the Democrat wins.

The GOP elite and their big money sources may like Kasich as he is a moderate and won’t rock the boat in D.C., the big government and big money deals will continue.

But, the media and GOP fail to see voters want a big change in D.C. That’s why Trump is big and so will be Cruz and Carson. Even a lot of White Democrat voters are looking for a change. Obama has disappointed them, at least the ones not on the far left.

Better check again Junior, because your sound bite is about ten years out of date. Anyway, ignorance notwithstanding, you should be aware that Kasich hails from downstate, around the Columbus area.

He has worked to improve city schools in Cleveland, and is now doing the same with Youngstown. May have something to do with his getting record percentages of the black vote in his statewide landslides. But of course, we don't want black votes do we.

Lol! I think that’s pretty much all you need to know!

And if you forget he’ll be sure to remind you! Lol!

Kasich is Dole without the personality. All these 1996 retreads because someone thinks there is a hierarchy.

Cruz is the only one who can win outright.
