The only way to stop them would be to shut down the repeaters — and remove equipment from the guys with the big antennas.

Btw the actual purpose of going remote is to put a transmitting antenna up on hill tops, mountains etc which dramatically improves signal efficiency. It was never intended to be covert from government spooks.

Btw, few even worry about the FCC/feds in that world. They’ve created enough chaos and carnage elsewhere to keep them busy for years.

I read a book called Patriots: A Novel of Survival in the Coming Collapse by James Wesley Rawles and in it the government is able to bomb the location where a radio transmission originates.

That’s the extent of my knowledge. Thanks for enlightening me.

You can broadcast all over country with 5 bucks worth of wire thrown up in a tree. You can’t even see these things unless your really close. Some are flagpoles, in attics etc. And repeaters can easily be mobile.

But the bottom line is if they really wanted to shut down the entire spectrum, they could.

So there ya have it.

The federal government has a plan to kill all cell-phone service in certain areas when officials decide it’s necessary.

But how then would they notify the citizens to turn in their weapons during such a time?

It might slow down the non-techies but not all. If the fed’s kill cellphone use, the whole US gets shut down including the feds. There are more devices that use cell service than just phones.

Still have walkie talkies that use CB channels and others. Short distances compared to Cell, and not personal, but still effective.

Guess you never heard of simplex for local operations. And it does not take a “big antenna” or an expensive one to make contacts across the country or around the world. But it does take “know how”.

...Well I have asked questions about radio a few times on FR and old radioheads immediately talk about licensing...

In SHTF situations, radio licensing will be as far removed from reality as getting HBO on your TV then.

What kind of signal is between the operator and the transmitter?

A wire of some sort. the radio itself will be wired-connected to the antenna. The problem with long-distance wire runs to an antenna is that the voltage drops the farther you go, as well as any EM noise the wire picks up (the wire itself is an antenna, it's just much better shielded than your actual antenna. )

Up on a logging road where my family lives we have to use CB to ensure we’re not driving up when a logging truck is coming down. We have to monitor CH19 all the time.

In the olden days when I was in Military Communications, the Defense Communications Agency had a well-rehearsed plan (with the cooperation of the Telephone Company) to seize all forms of electronic communication in the USA in the event of a National Emergency.

I suspect this is an modern extension of that plan, and is not new at all.
