The federal government has a plan to kill all cell-phone service in certain areas when officials decide its necessary.
But you arent allowed to see the plan.
And the fact that you cannot learn what might justify its use or who has the authority to push the kill button is the focus of a new case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Pulling the plug on local cellular service already has been done. In 2011, officials with the Bay Area Rapid Transit system in San Francisco cut off service inside four transit stations for three hours after a BART security officer shot and killed a homeless man and protests erupted in reaction.
The shutdown order was made when a protest organizer sought to coordinate activists via cell phone.

The problem with a radio transmitter is the instant you use it they know exactly where you are.
When all else fails ham radio works
...Except amature radio is LICENSED and they have the list...
Use is licensed. Ownership of them is not. If Cells turned off by government what’cha gonna do? Comprende?
That’s about what I figured; the same mechanism won’t work, but they could easily block those too if they want to.
If the government wanted to, they could take society back to the 19th Century. Power, water, telecom, internet can be shut off.
Our comfortable modern life is built around this infrastructure, and resistance to tyranny means having to sacrifice such.
No, not necessarily, amateur radio has also advanced with technology.
In fact many are operating using devices which allow them to control a radio remotely. In other words the operator is hundreds or more miles away from the transmitter or antenna.
... the problem is whenever you use (ham radio) they know right where you are the minute you turn it on. Nope. The location has to be triangulated by 3 mobile receivers who have to all be close enough to hear you, and they zero in. Nothing instant at all. This is old but RELIABLE technology.
> If he tries, hell find theres a gun behind every blade of grass. Americans dont go for this dictator crap.
I predict it won’t be a right winger thet gets him in the end. It will be one of his own who suddenly realizes who he really is and Brutusizes him.
What kind of signal is between the operator and the transmitter?
...they could easily block them if they wanted to...
As said before, the number of licensed and unlicensed ham radios is relatively small. Way down on govt. turnoff list. Qnd, if you know how to, you can retune them to a myriad of off frequency table frequencies.
Don’t forget about the Armageddon Protocol!

Licensed....give me a break, supposed to be licensed..Kinda like hand guns in Chicago
Well I have asked questions about radio a few times on FR and old radioheads immediately talk about licensing.
a wavy one
Purist, like to prove they passed the test
funny. i was just talking about this to someone last week.
I fail to see how that solves the problem of the signal being triangulated and the operator's location determined.
But if they really wanted to, they could just jam the entire amateur spectrum. And could do the same for most all communications.
