Michael Sam tweets his departure from football, citing mental health

Michael Sam will step away from professional football, he announced via Twitter on Friday night.

Sam, the 25-year-old who began the season with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes, cited a tumultuous past year for leaving football at this time.

The Alouettes confirmed in a release that Sam has left the club for "personal reasons" and that he has been added to the team's suspended list.

Sam made the announcement in a series of three tweets.

I am in the football business, won't say what capacity but will tell you when Sam was going through the draft process and the left wing media was touting his "heroic" efforts for coming out it was known in the scouting community he was bi-polar.

Mike failed to make a tackle in the Aug. 7th game. It guess that frustration was the last straw! The Aoulettes were as accomodating as one could ever get, far more than the usual American team. Maybe Oprah is still wanting to do that reality show. Well, there tons of available time now!
