In a 1992 study, Carson and his colleagues from Johns Hopkins used fetal tissue to better understand how the human brain develops. But in the wake of the Planned Parenthood videos, the presidential candidate has called fetal tissue research disturbing.
Ben Carson, a Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon and Republican presidential candidate, previously did research using human fetal tissue.
In the wake of the hidden-camera videos showing Planned Parenthood doctors discussing how to provide aborted fetuses to scientific researchers, Carson has told Fox News that the benefits of this research have been overpromised and under-delivered.
Late on Wednesday, an OB/GYN and science writer Jen Gunter revealed on her blog a 1992 study in which Carson and three other colleagues used tissue from the fetal brain and nasal cavity to better understand the development of the chambers (or ventricles) of the brain. These tissues were obtained from two fetuses aborted at the ninth and and 17th week of gestation, the paper says.
Last month on the Fox News program The Kelly File, Carson said:
At 17 weeks, youve got a nice little nose and little fingers and hands and the hearts beating. It can respond to environmental stimulus. How can you believe that thats just an irrelevant mass of cells? Thats what they want you to believe, when in fact it is a human being.
Aborted fetuses have been used for a wide variety of medical research for decades. The vast majority of scientists who depend on this tissue are refusing to talk about it, afraid of retribution from anti-abortion activists.
As a neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson knows full well that fetal tissue is essential for medical research, Gunter wrote in her post. His discipline would have a hard time being [where] it is today without that kind of work.
A representative from the Carson campaign said they are not commenting at this TIme.
His name is on the study, listed as a third author. If someone has made up a phony study that they have put his name on then he should sue them. Either he worked on the research study or he did not.
They lie.
Yeah, too coincidental. Gotta take Carson out before he actually gets through to some in the Black community on the horrific costs of abortions on them as a people.
From what I've learned of Dr. Carson, he has no dark side.
Ben Carson says “the left and the media” lied again:

Honestly, I thought he was referring to tumor cells?
30,000 Trump-likers snipping up their Macy's cards.
Ironic, is it not?
Is there a white board Rove uses that tells everybody Rove is an asshat???
How many medical students have dissected infants, at many stages of development?
BS
Lets say you are against murder
does than mean you should never study the cadaver of someone who was murdered?
Should you never study the cadaver of someone who was a murderer?
Your post was ridiculous
Well that depends...Was the murderer paid for the cadaver by the person doing the study? and if he was wouldn’t he want to murder again to get more money?
Not sure I understand what research on the murderer has to do with anything as nobody has of yet suggested we study the brains of planned parenthood’s abortionists, but maybe you are on to something:)
ME’s autopsy homicide victim’s all the time, they are paid however by the city government not the murderers.
By the way I am against murder and I hope you are too, not to be would indeed be ridiculous.
My husband is an MD, graduated from medical school in 98 and no they absolutely do not dissect infants at ANY stage of development.
I take it he is not a pediatric surgeon. And they don’t train doctors like they used to...
Ridiculous, indeed. Cadavers for prosections were highly valued and respected and maintained by the pathology departments of teaching hospitals. But they might do it differently in Central America. It is all about how the cadaver is obtained—
Im thinking we need brain samples from anyone who is still alive...I also suspect someone has already got a brain sample from me. Also the last I looked murder is still frowned upon
I apologize if I was rude in my first comments to you
He is not a pediatric surgeon, he is however a neonatologist. Your post specified medical students. Medical students do not dissect aborted infants at any stage of development and neither do pediatric residents. You do not begin training for your specialty until after you have graduated with your MD. Hubby is also associate program director of a pediatric residency program.
It is very unlikely that aborted fetal tissue would be used for the purpose of training surgical residents as the tissue certainly wouldn’t be intact for dissection after an elective abortion. Remember, doctors in the planned parenthood videos states that it is very rare for them to have a baby delivered intact from an abortion.
Handling brain matter is tricky given the risks associated with handling nervous system tissue:) Tolerance for murder depends on your location on the globe and your stage of life... thanks for the apology.
Not every medical school is alike. If an unborn infant cadaver is available in gross anatomy class, it should be used to teach. It needn’t be the product of an elective abortion. And abortion also means “miscarriage”— the question was not whether the unborn appear in gross anatomy classes, but from whence they come. This is a cheap shot at Carson.
Her post is ridiculous. You do not have to walk very far in most medical schools to see the “baby in the bottle”—generally a stillborn donated by the mother. While individual medical students do not dissect every cadaver, there are preserved “pro sections” — already dissected— where the bodies are peeled back to show placement of organs. And those with sick children should be thankful for their presence and the donation. Jumping to the conclusion that such would be the product of a murder is offensive and ignorant in the extreme.
