Desperate to preserve its water supply amid a four-year drought, Los Angeles is turning a reservoir into a ball pit. It may not seem like the most scientific approach, but officials say the shade balls will protect valuable H2O in the City of Angels.
Bringing new meaning to the term throwing shade, authorities claim the black, plastic balls will preserve the Van Normal reservoirs water supply in several ways. (excerpt)see all at link:https://www.rt.com/usa/312219-shade-balls-california-drought/

I wonder how much, and how fast, the water in the reservoir will heat up.
Won’t black balls absorb heat and cause evaporation?
I wonder if this plan was Reggie Love’s idea...
Not a bad idea until you get bacteria and mold from the balls in the water.
Black polyethylene resists breaking down from UV rays better than other colors. These black shadow balls will last longer.
Yes. Yes they will. And the remaining water will also increase in temperature.
Coated with chemicals? How do those greenie Kalifornians like that?
Also, "Lastly, the protective barrier formed across the surface of the water by the small spheres will help stave off contaminants from birds and other animals."
Does somebody actually think that the balls won't rotate and toss whatever bird poo and dead animals happen to land on them right into the reservoir?
IDE's Israel seawater RO desalination plant sets world record for water production
This will backfire.................
If they were smart they would have thought that thru before hand.. I highly doubt they did.
Typical stupid liberals...cause a drought with stupid liberal practices and then whine when they don't work and become "desperate".
Idiots.
That's VAN NORMAN (idiots)
Not all bacteria are hazardous, fish tanks routinely employ beneficial bacteria on filter balls to help clean the water. But the water in this reservoir will be treated with chloramine anyway, and unless there is some sort of fertilizer getting into the reservoir there shouldn’t be much mold or algae growth.
It would end up in the reservoir anyway. Hitting the ball first merely delays it a bit.
I thought it was Van Morrison.
Ah, what happens as a result of the lack of sunlight in the water. And I assume there will be a reduced oxygen content in the water as well due to the covering. Combined with the added heat from the black balls?
Wow, what could go wrong?
Shade Balls? Sounds like some minor genital ailment.
This is what happens when liberals use their “brains.”
