Macy's Inc. on Wednesday cut its sales guidance for the year after reporting steeper-than-expected slides in sales and profit in its second quarter.
Chief Executive Terry J. Lundgren said the company was disappointed with its second-quarter results, but said Macy's expects improvement in the second half of the year.

I just knew that they would tank when I cut up my Macy’s card.
I’m shopping at Kohls....Macy’s account has been closed.
Obviously a “miscalculation”.
I told them they would get me back when I can buy my next Trump dress shirt. The suppression of free speech is ridiculous in this country right now. Simply getting engaged in the political process means losing one’s job, business deals, etc.
Yeah, I know the 1st amendment is about government limiting speech, but the use of big business is bordering on the same level of infringement over the past two years. There’s a collusion between government and large business and the business side is doing the suppression to anyone who speaks out on anything.
Not only the RIGHT thing to do, but also the necessary thing to do. I paid off and cancelled our long-standing Macy’s account last week because of their professed love of uncontrolled illegal immigration and their enthusiasm for and financial support of the activities of Planned Parenthood, including baby dismemberment and parts marketing.
I emailed them at the time they dumped the Trump line and got a snotty response of diversity and pc extremism. I’m glad to see them sliding.
I stopped shopping Macy’s years ago. Why can’t companies just sell their goods without sticking their noses in politics? It’s a bad business formula to piss off a segment of the population (particularly conservatives).
Maybe these business shouldn’t mix politics.
Last time I had a Macy’s card was when I was shopping for our son’s wedding two years ago and they had a 10% discount if I got a card. I canceled it right after the wedding.
My sister asked me if I wanted anything from Macy’s this past Saturday.
I had daggers coming out of my eyes.
Absolutely NOT!!!
Pretty soon I will have to not only grow my own food but make my own clothes too
Macy’s also has a policy of gender-free bathrooms. Since I haven’t set food in the NYC Macy’s in about 20 years, I wouldn’t know if they implemented that intelligent idea. Bad idea because that store is like a giant, empty warehouse - perfect for crime.
Macy’s, Angie’s List, Apple all opposed the Indiana law trying to protect traditional marriage. All of them are going down.
Don’t mess with people who have moral principles! TARGET! You’re next! Just go ahead and gender-free your stores.
The CEO of Maceys was on FBN (and CNBC?).
He said his problem was people coming into the stores looking, trying on, holding product and then going online and buying it for less.
This quarter would have in fact gotten most of these cut up credit cards, so yeah, I think this was a factor. Not a major factor, but more lost sales.
If you’re struggling and trying to bring your sales up, even a 2.5% drop is a big hit.
I don’t believe in Racism either. If I thought Trump was engaging in it, I wouldn’t like it one bit.
He is not. I don’t like people or companies that use the racism charge like a hammer.
Adios Macy’s. Trump may become president. If you can survive until then, a rising tide lifts all boats.
Macys should stick to selling stuff and not pleasing a few Liberals—they don’t spend money like conservatives. Make a deal with Donald! Fox had to—so will others. Think, what Trump could do if he’s elected President! Not a wise thing to anger a popular figure.
Dance with Trump and there will be
“Blood on the dance floor”
I don’t think Macy’s dumped Trump until the first week of the third quarter.
So this can’t be due to Trump—but taken together these two dynamics may make the 3rd quarter scary for the firm.
