McDonalds plans to shrink by 59 locations this year in the US, the first time in at least 45 years that the fast food restaurant has closed more US stores than it has opened, as the company cuts costs and tries to revive sales.
The worlds biggest restaurant chain has not reduced the net number of its US stores since at least 1970, according to a previous Associated Press review of McDonald's regulatory filings.

Who couldn’t see this coming?
Their burgers have been shrinking for years ... thus their overall shrinkage.
Bring back the good fries!
I’m Lovin’ It.
Guess I should have gone to McDonald’s today today to help some a key American business.
Beef tallow instead of vegetable oils.
Healthier for you than veg oils. Tastes better too.
They should try something more intelligent, like drop at a third of the menu items and get back to the basics that built the company. You can’t be everything to everybody, Christ we used to laugh at Jack in the Box for their new product of the week, every damn week and then Mcd’s followed the same path. I will occasionally go to a Mcd’s and invariably be disappointed in the either the service, quality of the food (I’m talking preparation and temp), flavor and sometimes all of the above. I have a fair amount of data to judge by, considering I ran them for almost 23 years.
Back in the 70's in Germany, you could go to a McDonalds and the food would taste the same as in the States, and you could get a beer with your Big Mac :-)
McDonalds has caved in to the food police, hence their declining sales.
When you market to one demographic this is going to happen. Add to that demand by the libs for $15 min wage and “free” healthcare and I’m surprised the chain is still open at all.
They have a large complex menu that serves low quality food and their target demo is extremely poor urban markets. Literally nothing they serve is decent or even halfway there.
Gee... ya think the brand suffered? Growing up in the 80s and 90s McDonald’s was the go-to place to grab some cheap decent food that wasn’t a craphole. I actually worked there in high school. Somewhere along the way, a marketeer convinced the company to do some very dumb things.
This was on the forum about 6 to 8 weeks ago.
Not dinging you. Just wondering why it’s coming out again now as if it’s a new story.
Seems like someone has an axe to grind with McDonalds.

ROTFLMAO. Many you gave me a great belly laugh. Not sure why because your post is so true but I love the way you wrote it.
The never-ending commercials with black people only really did well for them. Hey, McDonalds, and all corporations: Black people are great, but a comparitively small part of the overall population. You might want to market to everybody equally. This may work for you.
Good. Less barf
Glad I could make your life a little jollier. Belly laughs are the best, lengthens life.
Opening a new store here next month and closing one a half mile away. Team will transfer over.

BINGO!
There is a hamburger chain south of here (Durango, CO) in New Mexico that makes old fashioned burgers with a limited selection. I had one smothered with diced green chili the other day and the place was packed, as usual.
Certain people do, more than one FReeper -- I've never really understood all the hostility.
