Hewitt, a nationally syndicated radio host through Salem Communications, will, along with CNNs Jake Tapper, moderate the next GOP debate on Sept. 16 at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California. Salem Communications is the same company that owns Red Statewhose founder Erick Erickson, a Fox News contributor, chose not to invite Dr. Ben Carson to his gathering of GOP candidates and activists this past weekend in Atlanta and disinvited Trump.
This weekend on Meet The Press in an exchange with host Chuck Todd, Hewitt admitted he doesnt think Trump can be president of the United States.
Hugh Hewitt, let me start with you, Todd asked Hewitt. Does Donald Trump have the temperament to be president?
No, no he doesnt, Hewitt replied. A disappointing part of this debate is it was a 9-10 debate in a 9-11 world. We have the Iran deal coming up, the most consequential deal facing probably the next 30 to 40 years in the world. It got very little attention. The Russian cyber attack on the Pentagon got very little attention.
Is that the candidates fault or the organizers fault? Todd interjected.
Well, its both, Hewitt said before blaming Trump for Fox News mistakes. Donald stepped on a lot of important stories. The New York Times has a story on Hillary Clintons server. Only Scott Walker brought up Hillary Clintons server. So I thought what he did to build the audience, it was enormous, at the same time I wanted a different issue set talked about so the Republican primary voter lost.
A moment later, Hewitt predicted that Trumps overwhelming support among Republicans wont last.
It wont last, I dont think it will last, Im skeptical of it lasting, Hewitt said.

he should resign from moderating. He should have kept his mouth shut. This is not about trump. He is just looking to promote himself at any cost.
Hewitt and Medved are the mouthpieces of the g.o.p.e.
I agree Hugh has to go...
I hope this ‘liberal’ will be nicer to Trump in this debate, that is if Trump decides he’s going, than Megan Kelly was or he will be where Kelly is today....at the bottom of the $hit pile....
I’m not a Hewitt fan but you guys are being ridiculous.
There is the main stream media who pretends they don’t have opinions (but do) and there is the new media who openly admit they have opinions and they voice them.
If you want a “journalist” who has never made a public opinion statement, then are are going to have to live with the state run “neutral” media.
Well Hewitt is hardley a RINO. But then again he is not, Not A RINO either (no, that's not a typo - just a difficult concept). There is worse than Hewitt. Much worse. And since we have very few supporters in the media we can't throw him under the bus right now. Maybe after the debate but not now.
OTOH, I really don't trust his judgment. Too often it leans to the RINO side. So I'm willing to give him a "wait and see" until after the next debate. I'm swayed a bit in his favor because at one time he predicted Ted Cruz would win the GOP nomination if not the Presidency.
Intriguing how so many people that were conservative heroes just months ago are now daily being called “not really conservative”. Are there any left? LOL
These are the questions we should be asking Trump. Thing is the establishment pukes are so disconnected from the base that as badly as they want to hurt Trump they have no idea what arguments will raise concern amongst conservatives. They actually think following the rat playbook bringing up pointless emotional pap is the way to go. GOPers and their shills are making themselves so hated that people will overlook Trumps faults because he is sticking it to the party elites and media slime.
Have The Donald wear a Cleveland Indians cap and Huuuuuuughghe Hooooooooooooooooooowits will quickly change his tune.
Gonna give HH the benefit of the doubt— he will do a good professional job as moderator. He’s a fair minded guy.
He is willing to shout “The Emperor Has No Clothes!”, and a lot of people have been wanting someone to say it, who will not be silenced by the media-government complex, for a long, long time.
Cruz does well with his “Washington Cartel”, but he does not yet have the reach and resources of Donald Trump.
Sounds to me like another set-up like with Fox....
If I were Trump I would have a ‘speaking engagement’ for that night...
Trump would probably deny that definition of “dirty” and his supporters will announce he turned it into a positive.
” Donald stepped on a lot of important stories”
Yes, if only he hadn’t interrupted Megyn she was going to ask him about Hillary’s email and the Iran deal .......
The moderator doesn’t matter; the candidate must be ready.
Trump, prepare. Strategize. Go all-in against this tidal wave of lies and bias.
I usually like Hugh Hewitt. I thought he would adopt a wait and see attitude. I was very disappointed in him.
Eleven short years ago, I was listening to Hugh Hewitt and he was extolling the great values of a conservative website that I had never heard of.
Free Republic.
On several occasions, I recall him citing threads and replies, with nothing but praise for "freepers".
Out of curiosity, I checked the site, joined, and (I'm guessing 20K posts or so later) I still have Hugh Hewitt to thank for steering me to this fine site and to you fine folks (even if we may not yet all agree that Trump is Perot II).
.
Free Republic is THE place talk show hosts go to for their show prep. Lots of really smart people post here.
Saw Hugh bad mouthing Trump on some panel recently. He shouldn’t be a debate moderator.
