Meanwhile, for around $100 a month pay TV is not only pummeling you with about 20 minutes of ads an hour, but forcing you to pay for a ton of networks you hate. Moreover, many of these networks get a chunk of your cable bill. Even if you dont watch left-wing CNN and MSNBC, if they are on your package, chances are a part of your bill is going directly to both.
If you want to put CNN, MSNBC, MTV, and all these other low-rated, left-wing networks out of business, not watching them makes absolutely no difference.
You have to cut the cord.
Nearly half of CNNs revenue comes from this immoral revenue stream. CNN is taking your money to attack you all day every day.
And that is the great con the gigantic left-wing multinationals have pulled off for decades. Something like 100 million homes keep hundreds of networks profitable by forcing those customers into overpriced cable packages. Maybe 15 cable networks could survive solely on ad revenue generated by actual eyeballs. The rest would go poof, and good riddance.

The death of the pay TV cable bundle is the healthiest thing that could ever happen to your pocketbook or our culture.
Cut the cord.
For America.

Unfortunately no. Same bundling problems with sat TV.
I just called Frontier, and they are not in Texas yet. But, my bill would go down a lot. I also use magic jack. bills are getting cheaper and cheaper.
I cut the cord 10 years ago. Internet only.
If Vipbox is stealing, I don't know how they do it. The content owners could easily shut them down. Vipbox has been around awhile. Their streams are low-rez so I assumed that the content owners gave it a pass.
Over the air for 11 years now...and we occasionally get new channels. I miss a few shows that I liked on cable, but those can be watched on youtube...literally the ‘delay’ on my favorite show is only 1 week, and it costs $1.99 to buy it on Youtube.
Watching over the air tv changes the way you watch tv...no more mindless channel flipping, or wall to wall news coverage of the latest distraction. Especially no more endless hours of rot-gut cartoons for the kids. Hard to explain, but too much cable can put you into a ‘funk’, and its refreshing to get out of that.
Sadly you need a fiber optic internet connection. I only have DSL so it’s a no go for me.
Thanks, for the info. I had called already, and they are not in Tx. yet. hopefully soon. Currently, I am overpaying Verizon, and the only way they will lower my rate is if I bundle it with cable.
DirectTV is a rip off.
For us it’s been about 5 years. Nickelodeon had ads for another network that included homosexual foreplay. We canceled cable that same day.
I’m cutting my cable on Saturday. Good riddance.
I want to put up an outside antenna, but not sure about their range. I have a couple of local stations about 70 miles to my NNE and a bunch to my S at about 70 miles.
I’ll use internet, Netflix, Roku and hope to get local channels at some point if I can work out the antenna selection.
Then we will not watch ANY OTA tv.
No big loss. Will miss some stuff, but on the 20 or so OTA channels we recieve, 90% of it is garbage anyway.
They don't stream anything themselves but link to sites that illegally do.
I imagine there are attempts to shut them down, as is the case with other sites that illegally stream. On the other hand, such sites are so prevalent, I'm not sure it would do much good. Shut one down & watch three take its place. Plus, Vipbox is overseas, making such shut down efforts much more difficult.
so call up and cancel cable....
can rabbit ears bring in the local channels?...
what internet service do I use to get the most programs, sports, news etc...??
We dumped cable at the end of last year, and have Roku as well. We certainly don’t miss paying for a zillion channels we never watched; and most of what we like is available still.
One thing I didn’t realize I’d enjoy so much, is being able to see YouTube on the big television screen ;-)
It’s amazing how much STUFF is out there - everyday people teaching all sorts of skills, and giving glimpses into their lives and hobbies; all kinds of documentaries, and science and nature shows, lectures, etc.
REAL ‘reality’ TV.

I cut comcast months ago. My kids watch Brady bunch green acres and others on hulu and netflix
Go to: http://antennaweb.org/Address.aspx to find out.
what internet service do I use to get the most programs, sports, news etc...??
I use Apple TV, Amazon, Roku for programming. Sport is via Vipbox, per above posts. Can watch sports on computer or hook computer up to your TV monitor to see on bigger screen.
My kids LOVE Gomer Pyle USMC!
see post 33 for antennae info.
I have a roku, have had it for years. I think it is the same as the amazon fire. You do need one device for each tv you plan on watching. We have a switch on the tv cabinet to change from local tv to roku.
I use netflix, Huluplus (same price as netflix) and amazon prime. However, prime does not have very many programs that are free, but I do like the convenience of renting a newer movie if I want.
Huluplus has also added showtime for a $5.00 a month charge. i like huluplus because you get popular shows the day they air, or maybe the next day.
We have also signed up for the baseball channel when relatives were in town and wanted to see a baseball game. I don’t remember the monthly charge, but it was way cheaper than a sports bar. We canceled it after the month was up.
I can only think of a few things I miss by not having cable. One show I like, that I can’t find anywhere is the big bang theory. I have to watch that on my computer on their website. But small price to pay for so much in savings.
