So, I propose the following 6-step solution, which will likely displease both gun-rights and anti-gun folks alike.
There needs to be a Federal database of all guns and gun owners. 7-day waiting period before a gun is purchased and background checks on every purchase. Elimination of unregulated gun selling / trading events. Every gun sold needs to be in the Federal registry. There should be a set standard for gun ownership. Currently, it is left in the discretion of local authorities who sometimes error incorrectly either way. If you have committed an aggravated felony you can’t have a gun. If you have mental health issues you get a hearing to determine your status. If you don’t fall into those categories, you can’t be denied a gun. Let’s do as the Israelis do. Currently, here in the USA, most sports arenas have searches on the way in. That needs to be effectuated on any public place where there are crowds. In Israel, you can’t enter a movie theater, bar, mall, etc., without bags being searched and wanded by a metal / bomb detector. Most gun crimes are committed by repeat offenders. There needs to be mandatory minimum jail sentences for any crime committed with a gun. Sell drugs while carrying a gun and get 10 years in prison – do it again, get 20 years. We need to let the bad guys know, gun crime gets you real time.
That is a pro-gun, reasonable gun control law, anti-violence, and pro-constitution solution. If both sides would actually get out of our ideological trenches we could make that happen. This article has inspired me to send my 6-step method to my Congressmen and Senators from New Jersey – while not holding my breath, waiting for a positive response.

I propose the same restrictions on the First Amendment right to Free Speech.
Meaning this jerk has to apply for the right to exercise his rights, and be logged by the Feds whenever he speaks.
Which makes his proposal illegal: He didn’t get registered by his Superiors at the Federal Government before writing.

But such a Solution would be opposed by traitors in the Just-Us Department and other leftist traitors in our federal and state judicial systems, and the traitorous demonicrats who infect our nation's juries.

In modern America, that is the catch-all. Tell your doctor that you’ve been feeling blue and you will be defending your “right” to own a gun.

Go on disability...
Be diagnosed with a disease that might cause depression...
Call your EAP at work...
Talk to your pastor about your unhappiness...
Post something on Facebook...
Tell a friend...
Get a divorce...
Lose a spouse or child or parent...
And, finally, do nothing and have a doctor think that you might be “hiding” a mental illness.

Well, with a database in place, it would be quite easy to confiscate all the guns. No more guns, no more gun crimes!
Oh, wait. I doubt if the cartels and the gangs would be carrying around any registered guns.
Hey, here is an idea. Execute anyone committing a felony and using a handgun during commission of the felony.
Rob a bank, shoot into the air with a gun, run out with cash, get caught, tried, executed.
Selling drugs, while carrying a gun, get caught, tried, executed.
After a little while, people would wise up and stop using guns to commit felonies. Those who don’t wise up need to be eliminated.
