Enough with the Trump Outrage
National Review ^ | 8/10/2015 | David French

Posted on 08/10/2015 12:58:48 PM PDT by Servant of the Cross

We’re days away from Congress failing to block a deal that will exponentially increase the chances of a nuclear flash over Tel Aviv or New York, and all conservatives could talk about for the past 72 hours was Donald Trump’s insult of Megyn Kelly, an insult that caused firebrand pundit Erick Erickson to lapse into Dean of Students mode to ensure that his Red State Gathering was a Safe Space — safe from the current GOP frontrunner.

And we wonder why people are deeply alienated from politics? First, let’s just tell the truth: Approximately 98 percent of the professional politicians, pundits, and consultants embroiled in the conversation over Trump’s comments about Kelly, in which he may or may not have said that her tough questions at Thursday’s GOP debate were due to menstruation, are most assuredly not “offended” or “outraged” by his words. Quite the opposite: In the political world, there is something like an electric shock of glee that passes through the community when someone says something “outrageous.” Controversy is energizing. Consultants, candidates, and pundits immediately begin working the angles — how can they exploit the latest gaffe, the latest misstatement, the latest offense against decency to advance their candidate or their cause? Outrage is a tool, the means to accomplish the ends of personal and political advancement.

Does anyone seriously think that Erick Erickson — a blunt-speaking radio host and pundit last seen urging his supporters to mail fake testicles to John Boehner ... is offended by Trump’s statements? (snip)

While the GOP bickers over a journalist’s reproductive system, the mullahs build their bomb. The weekend is over, it’s time to get back to business, and “business” includes stopping the worst international agreement since Munich.

I trusted the last bunch of Republicans we put into power.
I was a fool to trust them? (yes). Trump has no real political record so to say he is a liberal is not based on fact but on hearsay. He is a businessman and has many good ideas. I won’t say a bad word about Cruz. Trump and Cruz seem to get along.

RE> Is he going to tout his long liberal past or is he more likely to say what he knows voters want to hear?

Whoops I thought you were talking about Reagan.

Not to mention his revolving door immigration policy which is to deport all the illegals and then quickly let back in the “good” ones.

It is entirely based on fact, fact Trump supporters are choosing to ignore. See post#28

He is a businessman and has many good ideas.

Do you consider single-payer socialized healthcare one of these "good ideas"?

Whoops I thought you were talking about Reagan.

I'm not sure what that is supposed to mean. Could you elaborate?

Did not say Trump was a sincere conservative. I don’t know and time will tell. I just have issue when I think some are negating that anyone can become conservative when they awaken to the truth. Cruz has always been conservative and that is in his favor but then Dershowitz said Cruz was the most intelligent student he ever had so what could he be otherwise.

It’s not a “pro trump” article as much as it is an indictment of the entire Washington political machine — pols, staffers, and pundits alike.

Trumps campaign is an indictment of DC. Everybody outside government and the media get it. His supporters want DC to burn. This time, we screw them.

Some say we may destroy America with Trump. We say business as usual beat him to it.

You're wasting your time. These posters are part of Salem media, the umbrella holding company which owns the GOPe media sock pockets like HotAir, TownHall, RedState, etc.

In other words, they're just waterboys for the Bush crime family and DC cartel.

It's easy to spot professionals, because their responses are packaged in a way many of us communicated during our respective careers. Contrast their responses to the kinds of heart-felt, personal replies so many here have been penning recently.

I keep saying this, but people who were attracted to the media/DC cartel are the bottom of the barrel. If they had any gumption, they would have entered much more competitive environments like high tech, finance, development, etc. As a result, they're clueless as to the true nature of the threat, and don't have effective counter-measures.

If they did catch a clue, the first tip-off would be a restructuring of how they attempt to manipulate these treads with a more grass roots appeal.

Electing “conservative” republicans is a crap shoot at best.

Which is just more evidence that Trump's supporters like him because they like him. It's an emotional attraction not based on any facts or evidence. Very similar to how we got excited for Arnold Schwarzenegger in California. A lot of people like charismatic celebrities. Whether they will govern as a liberal or conservative doesn't seem to matter once you've fallen for their charms.

I like Cruz but I can understand why people are sick of voting for “conservative” republicans and getting burned. I am sick of it. I would vote for Trump before I would vote for Rubio, Kasich, Jeb, Paul, etc. Our country has numerous big problems but immigration is probably the most pressing critical issue. If we legalize 10 - 30 million illegal aliens it will be game over for the USA. We will never have another conservative president in my lifetime if that happens. See California for a model. If the only thing the next president does is secure the border and get rid of the illegals, it will be the best thing for our country to come out of DC in many decades. Cruz and Trump are the only ones that even say they will do it. I know that none of the CoC approved GOPErs will.

"Yeah Donald, get back to your favorite issues like single payer health care, retaining a progressive income tax, and wanting to be a Democrat..."

Well, on "Morning Joe" a couple of weeks ago, he admitted he's a Democrat.

But don't worry, Trump has universal healthcare firmly in hand. He says it will be "something terrific." No worries! /S

I wouldn't vote for any of them. There is no reason to when we have conservative Ted Cruz. And that is my point. Why support a lifelong liberal like Donald Trump when we have a real conservative who deserves our support?

"I trust Trump because he's not a career politician."

So everyone who isn't a career politician is trustworthy? That's all it takes?

Wow. Just...wow.

You haven't researched your own candidate.

Electing a president with a long liberal record will definitely help burn and destroy America.

Some of us want to elect a president with a long conservative record who will restore America’s greatness. See Ted Cruz.

To those of you who want to destroy America, such as yourself, Obama and Hillary, I say screw you.

Trump said in this current campaign that he will deport all the illegals and then expedite the process of bringing the “good ones” back in (to be residents but not citizens).

Is that what you’re looking for?

"I don’t care what you say. you have no effect .you megyn kelly except her reach is 24 million times greater than you and still she couldn’t fool us to bring down Trump. the media has a million megyn kelly’s all trying to bring down Trump so the media has 1 trillion times the reach and power that you have but still they can’t hurt Trump LOL

Trump at 32% , eat that ! LOL"

If I knew how to use Photoshop, I'd make an issue of Tiger Beat magazine with Trump all over the cover. I don't know if some of y'all even realize how you sound.

The Donald didn’t get 3 wives without being able to charm people beyond all reason.

I've heard it all. Just moments ago I was told any evidence that Trump is a liberal is hearsay. Direct quotes from the man is not hearsay. His history of supporting liberal causes are not hearsay. They are a very important insight into what he is all about. And in spite of what he has been saying during his campaign, he is all about liberalism.

LOL, it has to be that. No one could be against Trump on the basis of reason!

BTW, that's watergirl to you.
