Enough with the Trump Outrage
National Review ^ | 8/10/2015 | David French

Posted on 08/10/2015 12:58:48 PM PDT by Servant of the Cross

We’re days away from Congress failing to block a deal that will exponentially increase the chances of a nuclear flash over Tel Aviv or New York, and all conservatives could talk about for the past 72 hours was Donald Trump’s insult of Megyn Kelly, an insult that caused firebrand pundit Erick Erickson to lapse into Dean of Students mode to ensure that his Red State Gathering was a Safe Space — safe from the current GOP frontrunner.

And we wonder why people are deeply alienated from politics? First, let’s just tell the truth: Approximately 98 percent of the professional politicians, pundits, and consultants embroiled in the conversation over Trump’s comments about Kelly, in which he may or may not have said that her tough questions at Thursday’s GOP debate were due to menstruation, are most assuredly not “offended” or “outraged” by his words. Quite the opposite: In the political world, there is something like an electric shock of glee that passes through the community when someone says something “outrageous.” Controversy is energizing. Consultants, candidates, and pundits immediately begin working the angles — how can they exploit the latest gaffe, the latest misstatement, the latest offense against decency to advance their candidate or their cause? Outrage is a tool, the means to accomplish the ends of personal and political advancement.

Does anyone seriously think that Erick Erickson — a blunt-speaking radio host and pundit last seen urging his supporters to mail fake testicles to John Boehner ... is offended by Trump’s statements? (snip)

While the GOP bickers over a journalist’s reproductive system, the mullahs build their bomb. The weekend is over, it’s time to get back to business, and “business” includes stopping the worst international agreement since Munich.

It has been getting worse for sure. Dad has cataract surgery done 3 years ago. He’s been having follow-ups since and the specialist told dad one time that the wait period for cataract surgery has been growing longer. It’s up to 6 months to a year wait now.

I submit to you that it is time to get back to real meat.

The Cruz cut is on sale right now...

The Cruz may well be superior, but until he makes enough noise that they can’t ignore him, we will have to make do.

He likes Canadian health care and thinks it works? I have new for him. He wouldn’t put himself or his family in the hands of our system in a New York minute. It’s bloody awful.

Thank you for that insight Judy. Trump has said...

"The Canadian plan also helps Canadians live longer and healthier than America. We need, as a nation, to reexamine the single-payer plan, as many individual states are doing. While we work out details of a new single-payer plan, there are a number of ways to make the health care system now in place work more efficiently,"

This is no one conservatives should support.

I like a good bit of bombast myself. Ask around, I’m kinda known for it...

But, unlike Trump... I have principles. Some folks here might not like ‘em, but I have them.

Trump. Not so much. Reading his books, interviews, etc... He’s on both sides of every issue. Like a used car salesmen, he’s telling the gullible what they want to hear.

Your comments grow more asinine by the minute.

Donald Trump is too far left for me so you conclude that I am of the same mind as liberals Obama and Hillary?

You're making a fool of yourself in your quest to defend your support of a liberal. It really is comical.

I think that everyone is so thrilled to hear someone stand up to the media and political correctness that they are overlooking his core values.

Obama won with 99% of Black vote, 82% of Jewish vote, and 75% of the Latino vote. That won’t go for Trump.

If the only thing that Trump accomplishes is blowing the doors off of issues that the professional “I know what’s good for you” liars won’t address; then he has done this country a great service.

It is impossible, under our present form of government (Socialist oligarchy), to govern as a Conservative. The House and the Senate are each run by the Majority and Minority leaders. It matters not whether an R or a D follows their name; nothing ever changes. The rest of the House and Senate are there for window dressing and are merely collecting a paycheck.

We should count ourselves fortunate that in our lifetime we had ONE Conservative President, Ronald Reagan. The nation will cease to exist before another is allowed.

I am all for that. But for conservatives to ignore Trump's long liberal past and support him for the Republican nomination is just insanity.

re>Pointing out the incontrovertible fact that Trump is a liberal means nothing to the Trump faithful

Please answer this- we have a Republican House and Senate. What have they done?
I like Trump and think its time to let a seasoned businessman give it a shot instead of a politician.

Not saying whether Trump is conservative now or not but so many of the posts against him include that he registered as Republican ONLY 6 years ago. Many very sincere conservatives have awakened for whatever reason even more recently than that. Trash Trump as you will but allow the fact that anyone can evolve and change priorities even Trump...that is the basis of Chrisian teaching. BTW Cruz is and likely will always be my choice.

Trump strikes me as more of a “severe conservative” than a “sincere conservative.”

I am a conservative. I will not defend the liberals in congress. And I surely don't believe electing a liberal as president will change things.

Now if you will, please answer this - Trump is a lifelong liberal and his record proves it. How liberal must someone be before you do not trust them?

Electing “conservative” republicans is a crap shoot at best. We elected a Senator in Texas last year who claimed he is the 2nd most conservative Senator and would work tirelessly to stop Obama if republicans won the Senate. He is a Senate “leader”. He has done exactly nothing more than his democrat opponent would have done to stop Obama so far. I really can’t fault anybody for being disillusioned by the performance of “conservative” republicans and looking for an alternative. George W. Bush ran as a conservative. Look what he did once he got elected. Based on past performance, I don’t see how Trump would be worse than most “conservative” republicans.

Trash Trump as you will

Why do you consider my posting his long liberal record trashing him? Should we not vet candidates?

but allow the fact that anyone can evolve and change priorities even Trump

Consider this; a man with a long liberal past runs for president and he wants your vote. Is he going to tout his long liberal past or is he more likely to say what he knows voters want to hear?

Fall for it if you will, but I do not trust liberals and I surely don't trust a liberal who espouses positions that are antithetical to what he has stood for most of his adult life.

Electing “conservative” republicans is a crap shoot at best.

Then support the liberal. But it cannot be denied that Donald J. Trump is a liberal and if you support him you are supporting a liberal.
