Presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (D) of Vermont is planning to unveil a bill that, if passed, will make tuition at four-year public colleges and universities free.
In addition to eliminating college tuition at public colleges, Mr. Sanders' bill would expand work-study programs, and seeks to lower student debt and student loan rates a system modeled after those of European countries such as Germany, Sweden, and Denmark.
Earlier this year, Sanders called for free tuition for college freshman and sophomores, and recently other liberal politicians have also taken up the cause of making college more affordable for American students as well.
"We live in a highly competitive global economy and, if our economy is to be strong, we need the best-educated workforce in the world, Sanders said in a statement released Sunday. That will not happen if, every year, hundreds of thousands of bright young people cannot afford to go to college, and if millions more leave school deeply in debt.
To fulfill this goal, Sanders had called on state governments to invest $18 billion public higher education each year in order to meet his original goal of free tuition for college freshman and sophomores. Sanders has also frequently emphasized the need to invest in students and end the Department of Educations practice of profiting off student loan debt.

The left wants all kids in college so that they can brainwash them. NO other reason.
WOW. Free is good, right? Think of all who will now go to college for four years, just because it is free. (/s)
In Italy we had waiters with advanced degrees.
They spoke perfect English.
Great education. No jobs.
Did not read article. Answer is no, unless you’re an economic illiterate or a socialist, in which point, the answer is still no, but you’ll keep trying.
free, everything for free!
lol.
RE: They spoke perfect English.

Hey, being a waiter is a job.... (just saying )
I’m all for free eduction for everybody as long as the taxpayers don’t foot the bill.
Define “work”.
we should also make food free
and air conditioning
and cars
I totally support the concept of free college tuition...as long at the professors agree to work for free.
If the socialist universities support the idea of free education, they need to “walk the walk” and volunteer their services. After all, it’s for America’s future
Hmmm... Maybe Janet Yellen can help...
Free for Freshman and Sophomores probably means a tuition increase for Juniors,Seniors, and grad students.
.
What bothers me more than the free tuition is the fact that a college education today is about the equivalent of what a junior high school education was 100 years ago.
Bernie - if college is free, who is going to pay the professor salaries? The costs of maintaining the buildings? Stock the labs and libraries? Buy classroom supplies?
How is that going to be FREE?
Okay: No jobs in the fields in which they
Are over-educated.
But you knew exactly what was meant.
