We have never succeeded in shrinking the size of government," Republican Carly Fiorina told "Fox News Sunday." She said she would do it.
"We have a bunch of baby boomers who are going to retire out of the federal government over the next five to six years. I will not replace a single one," she promised.
"And yes, we need to actually get about the business of reducing the size, the power, the cost, complexity and corruption of this federal government."
Host Chris Wallace played a video clip of Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) criticizing Fiorina for nearly driving Hewlett-Packard, a Fortune 500 company, "into the ground." Schultz noted that Fiorina "fired 30,000 people when she was CEO."
"You know, if you end up as Republican nominee, the Democrats are going to put that in every ad -- she fired 30,000 people," host Chris Wallace told Fiorina. "It's exactly the kind of thing, Ms. Fiorina, that sunk Mitt Romney."
Fiorina said she's "flattered" that the head of the DNC would come after me because it must mean she's "gaining traction."
"It's also true that the vast majority of Americans know that in tough times sometimes tough decisions have to be made. And what they're frustrated by is the federal government never makes a tough decision."

iCarly is losing it.
She would leave empty seats on the Supreme Court, she would hire no staff if she won the White House....
lol
How about firing about 25% of them and closing some departments. That is a better start
Is that what she did at HP?
Gee, how did that work out?
Very good! Let them retire out and slim down the whole apparatus.
This is going to be difficult in some places because the majority of the employees are black since this has been regarded as an affirmative action hiring opportunity for decades.
Also... a reward/amnesty program for government fraud. If you report known fraud you get a 10% bonus. If you turn YOURSELF in you get amnesty, for one year, with some sort of restitution. But better hurry before someone else turns you in for the bonus.
After that, MANDATORY MINIMUM 10 YEARS JAIL for any government fraud - including voter fraud.
You cannot fire Government workers..
Fiorina: ‘I Will Not Replace a Single’ Retiring Federal Worker
Can’t wait until O’Bummer retires!!!
Attrition? I would say, “You go girl!” ... if I believed her.
When you dig into the boilerplate, you’ll learn that it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to fire a Federal employee.
Does that include retiring Senators and Congressmen? How about retiring military?
This isn’t a new idea. You don’t “cut” federal workforce, you let it cut itself through attrition. Given how hard it is to actually fire a federal worker, this is the most reasonable way to cut the size of the federal workforce over time.
How about just keeping on the best people, period.
Nah, that makes too much sense.
“This is going to be difficult in some places because the majority of the employees are black since this has been regarded as an affirmative action hiring opportunity for decades.”
Federal Workforce:
66.8% are white
18.3% are black
5.5% are Asian
1.3% American Indian/Alaskan
0.4% mixed race/Pacific Islander

Why not pretend they’re HP employees and lay ‘em off?
Well she has said she would have voted for Sonia Sotomayor for the court, and it was a mistake for Ted Cruz to filibuster Obamacare
Abolish entire departments would be the best way.
National security be damned.
That is a typical, clueless, CEO answer to the problem. Cut headcount and you shrink the size of business. Except that you don't do away with the work, you just do away with the number of people doing the work. A rational, well-though-out solution would require determining if the function performed is actually necessary, and if not then doing away from it. But that doesn't make a good sound-clip and Fiorina doesn't care if it's necessary or not so long as she can reduce the headcount.
Can’t do that. Let them retire or even take early retirement and you’ve avoided the SEIU and will actually be able to make a difference.
She knows what she’s doing. I had some nvolvement with HP, which was like the federal government, very paternalistic and never fired anybody.
The reason people hated her was that she was hired to cut out the waste (about 25% of the employees) and then was thrown to the dogs when the employees complained. However, she left the company strong and able to hold its own.
I think she’s probably been seeking less drastic ways of doing this, and because most civil service employees are probably already close to retirement, this would be a good solution.
