The city of Durango and La Plata County, Colorado, have declared a state of emergency after a federal cleanup crew accidentally released mine waste into the water.
An estimated 1 million gallons of waste water spilled out of an abandoned mine area in the southern part of the state last week, turning the Animas River orange and prompting the Environmental Protection Agency to tell locals to avoid it.
According to the EPA, the spill occurred when one of its teams was using heavy equipment to enter the Gold King Mine, a suspended mine near Durango. Instead of entering the mine and beginning the process of pumping and treating the contaminated water inside as planned, the team accidentally caused it to flow into the nearby Animas River.

We both know it is because Pravda just moved the propaganda machine to the U.S.
This just isn’t something that fits the agenda. You can’t hide it from people who want to know but they don’t matter. All you have to do is shape public opinion by what you feed them.
Just like the mess at Ferguson. The media was spewing more of the claptrap about Michael being “just a kid” and bla, bla, bla. He was not just a kid, he was a sad but dangerous product of socialism, multiple broken homes, thug role models and all that crap.
Some gubmint moron failed to include the gravity factor.
Yeah -- and increase our taxes to pay for it... </SARCASM>
Oh we’ve already addressed that as the most likely outcome.
OR, they could cut it out of the EPA’s budget.
More like 3 million gallons & rising...

They are telling folks at San Juan arm of Lake Powell not to drink or swim in there.

Who pays the fine for this?
Oh, right: all the rest of the country.
Any guesses as to whether or not this was an intentional spill meant to highlight the “importance” of the EPA?
If you aren’t part of the solution, there’s good money in prolonging the problem.
Yes. Same river.
One of the worst pollution disasters ever. Yet, the EPA will be given a pass by liberals.
Further proof that there is no problem so great, that government can’t make even worse.
Yep...The pinnacle of stupidity cannot be that dumb.

The Elite have little worries.
The initial release was into Cement Creek at the mine. Cement Creek flows into the Animas River. The Animas River flows into the San Juan River, which then flows into the Colorado River. For those not familiar with the Colorado River, it feeds Lake Powell in UT/AZ, Lake Mead in Las Vegas, NV, and Lake Mojave near Bullhead City, AZ, and Lake Havasu prior to flowing into the Gulf of California.
I caught my first fish in the Animas in Farmington at the old bridge on South Miller St back in 1956.
Wish I was still there.
The people who screeched over BP and Exxon don't give a shit about "the environment," they just want to attack oil companies and car companies, two fundamental instruments of American freedom. Without automobiles and firearms, they know they could control us. I just can't go all that far on my bicycle anymore...
Yes, President Nixon created the EPA by Executive Order. However, funding for it still has to be approved by Congress.
Congress did indeed ratify the E.O. and approved/funded the EPA. No funds, no EPA.
The Animas flows into the San Juan and from there into Lake Mead
Not the first time. Several years back a holding pond near Silverton overflowed and sent mine tailings down the Animas.
