EPA spill: 'The magnitude of it, you can't even describe it'

The city of Durango and La Plata County, Colorado, have declared a state of emergency after a federal cleanup crew accidentally released mine waste into the water.

An estimated 1 million gallons of waste water spilled out of an abandoned mine area in the southern part of the state last week, turning the Animas River orange and prompting the Environmental Protection Agency to tell locals to avoid it.

According to the EPA, the spill occurred when one of its teams was using heavy equipment to enter the Gold King Mine, a suspended mine near Durango. Instead of entering the mine and beginning the process of pumping and treating the contaminated water inside as planned, the team accidentally caused it to flow into the nearby Animas River.

Almost the same here. I took one class and decided they were in a stretch of creating problems in search of answers. The environmental lab was mostly populated by international students and hippie types in all truth.

If it was in any other country there would be a Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigation... bribes of government officials are only legal int he U.S.

Can’t move any dirt without an environmental report. When they get to it the pond will be empty.

Horse feathers. EPA is the result of a creation by Congress and Congress can fix it if they had the will and were not always busy feathering their own nest. Saying it can’t be fixed is just passing the buck.

EPA has interpreted well beyond the law in any way they deem appropriate or necessary to some purpose. It is just like the rest of the government; corrupt and perverted from the original intention and simplicity. The tax code was a simple law when it started and now my tax return is nearly 70 pages! Nothing the government does doesn’t expand because a bunch of pettifogging lawyers get started trying to legislate or codify morality and common sense. Congress provides unlimited funds for unlimited mischief. Cut the funds and you cut the mischief. The more people you have the more crap they dream up to do and they will do something even if it is wrong or just plain stupid to hold on to their little phony baloney jobs.

Congress has written a bunch of junk, compromised, open ended, lobbyist satisfying laws and left it to the bureaucrats to interpret them and given them police powers to enforce.

Regulating mud puddles and ditches is just one of many over steps the EPA has taken. There may be a law to end pollution but it was a stupid law and should be reversed. The only way to END POLLUTION is for everybody to DIE and quit using resources. That is what some have in mind so long a the ruling elite aren’t the ones who are vacated.

You stuck your hand in the meat grinder pal. All politicians are all hat and not cattle.

You would use the law to oppose socialism? But it is upon the law that socialism itself relies. Socialists desire to practice legal plunder, not illegal plunder. Socialists, like all other monopolists, desire to make the law their own weapon. And when once the law is on the side of socialism, how can it be used against socialism? - Socialism Is Legal Plunder - Bastiat

DEFUND/DISMANTLE domestic socialist collectives

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance. - list of grievances - Declaration

UNaccountable bureaucrats are socialists.

“EPA is the result of a creation by Congress”

No, EPA was created by Executive Order.

My first thought, too. Mother Government wanted that waterway and/or land for her own purposes, and since the owners weren’t willing to sell, She trashed it, making it unusable for anyone.

Paranoid? Nope. Educated and informed on Government tyranny? Yep.

Grrrrrr! Seriously, I’m done growling. I’m going to start BITING!

NO, your argument is that it was necessary to create EPA because Congress created the law and that EPA was necessary to remedy the agency alphabet bowl of a mess of enforcement. You also argued that EPA is necessary or interpretation and enforcement would be worse.

Don’t go in circles. I know what you wrote.

I have no more time for you or the likes of any politician or bureaucrat. They can’t be reasoned with any more than a rattlesnake.

Catch the post just below yours and the thread behind it.

The time for talking is long past.

We have given the ballot box a chance and Ted Cruz at least recognizes that what we voted for is not what we are getting. Ted may just be pandering to what he thinks will get him elected though.

You say you are going to start biting. When and how?

Congress should deduct it from their budget.

Good idea. We should go for treble-damages, and make claims for hardship and mental anguish. With McDonalds-like jury nullification, lets just go for return of our $18 Trillion. If the govt balks, they could be let off easy... $1 Trillion easy payments over 18 years.

Where is the outrage. Are the people that screeched after BP or Exxon asleep or is it that this is not industry that caused it but the federal boobs.

Is this the same river that the Durango-Silverton train follows? If so, what a shame. Such a beautiful ride.
