Apparently all of that anti-imperialist rhetoric from Caracas was just a farce for public consumption. As Venezuelas economy implodes amid skyrocketing inflation and crippling shortages of practically everything, Socialist strongman Nicolás Maduro (shown) has a new plan to prop up his imploding regime: annex two thirds of neighboring Guyanas territory and almost one third of its population. The area eyed by Maduros autocracy is especially noteworthy now that potentially lucrative oil deposits have been discovered offshore. Unsurprisingly, a powerful alliance of the regions socialist strongmen and their allies has sided with the regime in Venezuela. Talk of war is escalating. Now, the United Nations is getting involved, too.
The fresh dispute over the massive stretch of Guyanas territory, known as the Essequibo region, first flared up again in June. Maduro, faced with a domestic uprising among impoverished and oppressed citizens, issued a presidential decree purporting to claim sovereignty over the entire 65,000 square miles of Essequibo, which accounts for the overwhelming majority of Guyanas landmass and some 200,000 of its 750,000 citizens. Also included in the area claimed by Maduro is the vast stretch of ocean where energy giant Exxon-Mobil, under contract with Guyanese authorities, recently announced the discovery of oil. Maduro outlined a defense zone offshore that, if allowed to stand, would reportedly block Guyanas access to the Atlantic Ocean.
The decree by Maduro came just weeks after the U.S. energy company found the oil deposits.

Socialism.....lots of killing so a new bunch of dummies can ride in the government limousines while people are working for $11 a month.
Let’s send every American professor to Guyana for the Professor Division to defend Guyana.
Guyana, with less than a million people, he figures he can just walk in and annex it. The Venezualans have disputed this land since 1840. Even if asked by the Guyanese, I doubt Cameron has the 'nads to do anything. O'Venal won't go against a 'fellow traveller,', so I guess that Guyana is SOL unless the UN can do something.
If Brazil tells him to cease and descist, he would be very wise to obey, given Brazil is seven times the size of Venezuala and has a functioning economy.
Hitler had a similar situation. He HAD to start WW2 and start invading and looting neighboring countries, before his socialist economy collapsed.
With our White House "empty" doubtful America will do anything to prevent this. However, there have already been several instances of armed resistance in Venezuela. Any attempt to invade another country may cause more harm than good to Venezuela.

“This is another instance of something that would NOT be in Americas interest that the Obama regime may well simply not oppose and allow to happen if not actively and/or covertly promote. This is in IMHO of course, but it would certainly fit in with Obamas modus operandi as he continues to endeavor to weaken America and strengthen Americas enemies however he can.”
However, my armchair “strategerie” and hemp fueled brain thinks of the following possible fantasy outcome:
1. Trump assures Guyana of military support when he comes to office.
2. We rescue Guyana with the primary objective of seizing their oil fields. Yes, this time it IS blood for oil my fellow citizens...very little blood, lots of oil.
3. When hostilities conclude, and we rebuild Venezuela and get it pumping full bore, guess where we get our work force. Illegals. Including hiring them for environmental safety jobs, good PR and a bone for the hippies.
You need to find new enemies constantly! Grocery stores are apparently it now, lol
*Seizing the Venezuelan oil fields
#headsmack
He ran out of domestic enemies and now has to gain popularity through war!
socialism.... not much changed
I thoight Guyana was socialist too
Germany and the Soviet Union were socialist and they fought each other, Socialists fight each other all the time.
That’s true.
Maduro sees Guyana as a tiny poor country with no real army to speak of. Which is all true. Any expression of international outrage will be used by the state controlled media as justifying their attack.
This is when you say something like, “The United States won’t stand idly by.”
Obama will. Mop up will be required.
Just being a decent leader creates stability.
Being an Obama leader leads to instability. GLOBALLY
Guyana is a very large poor country.
Real estate wise. Sparsely populated, but a whole lot of pretty much nothing.
In fact I once mused that Toyota should build a plant in Georgetown. A relatively motivated and trainable people. I’m sure they’d appreciate the paycheck.
Obama took that elemental “let no crisis go to waste” and made a conscious decision to suspend and create crisis, and place himself in the way as a stumbling block to any conclusive solution. Instead of the old political math of bribery gaining a politician’s help, he deliberately sabotages for influence and power, starts fires and then stands in the way of the hydrant. He seems to pursue relevance and revenge.
I agree with that.
