I believe, more and more, that Ted Cruz should be our next President.
Although I like a lot of what Trump is saying, and I like the way he is taking on the Media and the establishment (but Cruz does the same). My concern with Trump is his disposition. In essence, it's this:
Even if Trump does some things I may believe in, I believe he would not hesitate to violate the constitution to do so.
It does not matter what side of the political divide you are on...if you violate the constitution you are not a friend of the Republic because the power will consume you and sooner or later you will do things that hurt us all. I believe he would step on the Constitution. I believe he would not hesitate to do so.
Now, if it comes to it, I would certainly vote for Trump over Hillary.
But I know this. Ted Cruz is a principled constitutionalist, conservative, and Christian man with a proven record to back all of that up. He is my first choice.
Right now I am supporting him for President.
Please watch all of Cruz responses. I am going to support him for President.
Howdy Jeff...good to see you and talk to you again. Hope your long term recovery and prognosis continues to improve. Through the depths of your troubles, you were in my prayers.
To my minds eye, Cruz is the only option we have to secure the blessings of liberty for our posterity. For years we’ve lamented the lack of a real conservative to vote for....this cycle, we finally have one.
Here is the question I would like the FR Trump supporters to answer: name ONE thing, prior to four months ago that Donald Trump ever did that establishes he had a sincerely held conservative belief.
Unfortunately Trump would violate the constitution as readily as Obama has done. He’s got a lot of the right ideas but a constitutional conservative he is not.
Principled and willing to fight for those principles. He is the man we need.
Anyone who reads his book will support him for President.
Many voted for the one we have now because he is black (sort of).
Because of the questionable criteria used by voters we probably, once again, will choose the wrong man for the job.
God Help Us! But he probably won’t and I don’t blame him.
I watched. I was never more proud of my early intentions to decide to make him my first choice. He is the first of a pitiful few, regretfully. And, even in this pitiful few, there is no contest about who the best is in my opinion.
Go Cruz!
Impressive.
What you say is probably true. But you cannot negate the fact that he re-introduced the word “illegal” back into the GOPe (and MSM) lexicon.
Of course he’s nowhere near Cruz in conservative credentials, but his unique unsullied position (with respect to being bought and paid for by some PAC or victim group) coupled with his determined, yes stubborn, attitude brought that word back from ignominy.
I’ll start worrying about Trump when Cruz does.
He has been my first choice for a while, with the knowledge his poll numbers are low.
It has been obvious to me ever since he has been on the national stage, he is a Constitutionalist worthy of our interest. There is still time for his poll numbers to climb to competitive status.
We were “FOR” Mr. Cruz
.... until he voted for ObamaTRADE,
before he was against it the next week.
Not only does Senator Cruz have my vote, my entire family is voting and donating.
My first Presidential vote was for Reagan. We have one kid who will be voting for the first time and she is 100% Cruz.
So I have a good feeling....
Cruz has one big problem - he is a Texan. I have talked with many people(thousands on phone trees) and they are(rightfully so after W) skeptical of Texans. I see that as a base level problem for Cruz. AND Perry being pro illegal doesn’t help.
The media will attempt to throw a wet blanket on his every move in effort to snuff out his fire.
Trump has the fame, but not the cred, and the media is having a hard time throwing the blanket over him.
Hope Cruz is taking notes and doing some late night cramming.
Cruz is on a different level than the rest. Hopefully so much so that he adapts to the games played by the media and pundits and gets the lemming public to realize he is the antidote to the currant infection in the White House.
I like Cruz, and although I like how Trump is speaking up, I certainly wouldn’t trust him with the “football” because he cannot control his temper.
What I would like to see are groupings of 4 candidates in a roundtable setting discussing various concerns. Keep it to 30 minutes, and maybe 3 topics. Record it all and post it to you tube and the various candidates websites.
Then do the next 4 candidates and so one until everyone one of them has had a chance to explain their views and their strategies.
(this was the idea of Sam Malone who does a morning show on 1070am Houston - it would certainly self eliminate certain candidates)
Let the American public chose our next candidate, it feels like the media is trying to pick our next candidate, and that’s certainly not going to help up dealing with the last 7 years.
No question Trump cuts to the chase but braggadocio is not a quality we should look for in a President. We’ve seen what six and a half years of a narcassitic personality can do, we need a cool head in charge not a loose cannon.
You can search through all of my posts. I’ve never once said that I support, would support or think he should be President. What I have said is that he performs a valuable service in a limited area. I still believe that.
That said, if I am faced with a Republican Trump candidate and a Hillary Clinton or other Democrat, I will vote for him. If Cruz is on the primary ballot in Georgia, he’s got my vote. My hope is that he drops out and endorses Cruz and Cruz becomes President.
With all this, I cannot stress enough that if Jeb Bush is the Republican nominee, I’ll stay home. There is no quarter on that point. Not again - never again.
While the Trump Circus is still on tour is not a good time to openly compete by jumping up and down yelling “Me Too, Me Too”.
All this is a fantastic publicity stunt, even though he is saying some very right things. I predict that Trump will tire of this as his stage light gradually dims. Don’t think he’ll even sign up for any Primaries.
Politically he’s on the stage to squash the crowning of Jeb. As The Donald graciously steps aside he will point to who he likes.
In his business world, being King Maker is better than gold.
The Republican establishment made a big mistake promoting another "Compassionate Conservative" as their standard bearer, its a synonym for Democrat Lite. The last thing we need is a "political gentleman" in the mold of GHWB, Dole, McCain and Romney, we need a political knife fighter.
Cruz has the creds, but he needs the fame.
The Cruz teams needs to figure out a way to generate buzz/attention in today's media environment. Cruz is head and shoulders above the rest of the candidates on understanding the framework of how our government should work. He understands the disconnect between average people and the Washington club. He understands the corruption in DC leadership, and he is the only one willing to tackle it.
The media will attempt to throw a wet blanket on his every move in effort to snuff out his fire.
We saw very clear evidence of this in the fox news "debate" the other day. The fox people tried to keep Cruz as much as possible out of the discussion. Unlike with other candidates, they never went to Cruz to see if he had anything to say regarding responses to key issues. Cruz was the forgotten man on the stage for the longest time.
Megyn eventually went back to Cruz to see if "he had a message from God". That was supposed to be a gotcha question. If Cruz had answered that God had told him about a specific issue, it would have been a soundbite that they would have used repeatedly against him as some kind of crazy. Cruz answered that question very well. I think he understood what they were trying to do.
