Obviously, the mission last night was to eliminate Trump, not to discuss our national crises.
Very incisive article. You spell out exactly what is wrong with the “gotcha” format of last night’s speed-interviewing (I can’t really call it a debate”).
Why is it better to have the candidates stand there and field whatever random questions come out of the mouths of the interviewers? Better to present a series of issues and give the candidates an opportunity to lay out their views. Then they can be questioned about inconsistencies, etc.
As it is, we see barbs thrown unsystematically in a way intended to take down the one candidate or another (last night the target was Trump; who knows who it will be if he goes down?).
Excellent article. Unfortunately, we will never hear these questions asked during the campaign. These topics could potentially be the focus of a strong candidate.
The Faux moderators took to slinging poop like a bunch of monkeys within the first 10 seconds of questioning. We can no longer deny that Faux has become a tool of the GOPe as MSNBC has become of the socialists.
It was gratifying to watch the moderators get slapped down again and again. Otoh, it’s time to find a new place to get my news. I guess I’ll have to spend more time web surfing rather than being fed a steady stream of propaganda from TV news. I’m done with them all.
If want to hear a bunch of ‘kindergarten’ crap, I'll go to my local council meetings, they have better p.c. b.s. going on there....
I don't really care what happened, this didn't from what I heard, was a ‘debate’ it was all about ‘get rid of certain people’ and ‘let Jebby win’ which to me is a waste of my power for the radio being on....went back to my sewing and enjoyed the evening...
This is indeed the paramount question of our time. The only way to truly understand this crucial issue is to study, in depth, the causes of the US Civil War. To start that endeavor you must first ditch the infantile notion that it was "all about slavery". This cookie cutter one liner is designed to cut off all intelligent discussion.
.....a republic if you can keep it.
I agree.
Oh, wait...^wolowitz^!
Tomato...to-mah-to
These debates are more for the theatrics than the actual responses.
Who can reveal how to heal the sluggish economy — in 30 seconds?
Who can explain how to defeat ISIS/ISIL — in 30 seconds?
Who can detail how to save Social Security and Medicare — in 30 seconds?
etc.
At most, several of the participants made some morning-after headlines. Several, however, showed about as much excitement as paint drying.
