The Austin County Sheriffs Office released the dash camera video of a July 14 traffic stop of State Representative Garnet Coleman Tuesday to refute claims Coleman made last week about being disrespected and treated like a child.
Coleman, as the chair of the Committee on County Affairs, held a hearing last Thursday in Austin as the first public inquiry into the arrest and death of Sandra Bland in Waller County. In that hearing, Coleman recounted his own history of being pulled over in traffic stops and gave this account of an I-10 traffic stop that happened just two weeks ago.
He talked to me like I was a child, he said of the sheriffs deputy who pulled him over for speeding. He was so rude and nasty. Even when he found out I was a legislator, he became more rude and nasty. And I didnt understand why this guy was continuing to go on and on and treat me like a child. And basically like Im saying is treat me like a boy. I want to be very clear about that, Coleman said in the committee hearing.
This week the Austin County Sheriffs Office revealed to KHOU 11 News that one of its deputies made that traffic stop near Sealy on the morning of July 14. And Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes released the dash cam video of the stop to let the public decide for themselves if his deputy did anything wrong.
I think the video shows exactly what happened, Brandes said. I saw nothing that indicated that he put forth any disrespect whatsoever Brandes said of the Austin County Sheriffs sergeant who made the traffic stop.
And that is a problem, how?.................
Holding black people accountable for their behavior is a microaggression.
And this is why every cop should be wearing an active Go-Cam every moment they are on duty. It is likely to exonerate them far more often than convict them.

Why do suppose Hoft needs to steal other people’s
video to get dope money? Can’t he get hired?
A Dem lying about stuff?
Say it ain’t so!!!
That never happened either. #BlackLiesMatter
If that were you or me, we would have been given a ticket for reckless driving AND for not having the front license plate displayed.
As soon as I saw “Austin” and (D), I knew how this would go.
It is my understanding that most Texas do not consider Austin to technically be a part of Texas.
he was driving 94 and he only got a warning???
It was beautiful — and some parts economically-bankrupt when I was there for a job interview in 1999. I saw fairly-large mall, all closed, and an out-of-business Applebee’s right in the middle of an otherwise prosperous area. It was very odd. All overgrown with weeds.
Never knew about its (Austin’s) reputation, though until a few years ago.
I got one for 84 just last week. Must have been all that “white priviledge” that I have.
And this lying scumbag should be impeached!
94 mph passing a LEO?!?!?!?
Then the dude lies about it!?!?!? The frecking LEO did you a favor..and you threw him under the bus..........!!!
I really hate some people....................
Make that one ticket-no warning.
Even when he found out I was a legislator, he became more rude and nasty - translation - he actually gave me a ticket
lt me correct that -Even when he found out I was a legislator, he became more rude and nasty - translation - he dared to stop me
The city of Austin is in Travis County. Austin County is about 50 miles west of Houston. Sealy, Bellville, Wallis, Cat Spring, New Ulm, Industry, Nelsonville, Blieberville, and a bunch of other small towns.
Yes, that “gentleman” sure did have an attitude, should have gotten a ticket.
This genius does not understand about the dash cams???!!!
‘As soon as I saw Austin and (D), I knew how this would go.”
It was in Austin but he is a HOUSTON(D).
