House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) had been planning to call up on the House floor last week a measure from Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) that would have removed him as Speaker of the House if it succeededintending to embarrass Meadowsbut abandoned the plan after his entire leadership structure learned that they did not have the votes to re-elect him as Speaker before the August recess.

I know members personally who were called by Steve Scalise. So they had the entire leadership whip team frantically making phone calls to members to whip the vote because they wanted to attempt to embarrass Meadows and call the vote [on Wednesday last week] so its not hanging over Boehners head.
What they found out was the exact opposite. They found out bad things would happen, that literally they would be calling the vote without knowing what would happen. Therefore, they did not call the vote and now they have this issue hanging over John Boehners head for the next five weeks.

These skirmishes will continue and become more vicious as we approach the 2016 elections.

Stop that before you go blind, McCarthy!
Boner really should step aside. Use a spend more time with family. Or health issues. Even maintain his seat under some pretense. Just. Step aside from position of authority.
Trump could put in the final nail by saying what a terrible job he has done during the debate.
Wonder if that old RINOsaur McConnell is paying attention.
“Embarrassed”” is utterly meaningless. The only question is ... are you in power or not. And Boehner is in power, until he isn’t and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
More time for the orange puke's "tan".
He really should but he’s totally corrupt!
Importantly, though Boehner may now erect obstacles to a vote, he cannot entirely stop it. Everything he might do has a counter to it. Here’s how it works:
“The Motion to Vacate the Chair is a privileged motion. This means that if Congressman Meadows forces it forward it cannot be blocked by the Speaker or his leadership team using procedural tactics or the Rules Committee. They will have to have a vote of the entire House of Representatives.
“Some will note that the Motion has already been sent to the Rules Committee, and thats true. However, Congressman Meadows can move to discharge the Motion from the Committee or, if the Committee votes it down quickly, he can simply submit another Motion to Vacate the Chair and call for a vote that must happen within two legislative days (two days during which the House is in session).
“A ‘Motion to Table’ would be filed by a Boehner ally once the Motion is on the floor. The phrase to ‘table’ a motion comes from the days when everything was done on paper and so, if successful, a ‘Motion to Table’ literally meant that the motion in question would be left on the table - i.e., not taken up.
“Of course, the vote on the Motion to Table becomes the de facto vote on the underlying motion, because logic dictates that all those voting against the Motion to Table will also vote for the Motion to Vacate the Chair.”
[spend more time with family]
I’m guessing his family may not want to see more him.
He’s a slimy character and they must know it.
But you can bet your arse the GOPE leadership will pound the members of the caucus into submission over these next five weeks. What usually happens is that conservative Republicans don’t have a strong record of standing up for their principles — the values that got them elected by the conservative base — when they go up against the powerful GOPE/RINO leaders. I will be most pleasantly surprised — but surprised nonetheless — if they act differently this time.
All this maneuvering only shows what a game this all is to him and his cronies.
He should move out before it comes to tar and feathers.
