Business tycoon Donald Trump has burst upon the Republican presidential campaign like a loud, over-charged wrecking ball. Many within the GOP establishment, like Karl Rove, have dismissed him as a political joke and a candidate not to be taken seriously. The GOP would be very wise not to follow that advice. Does anyone remember a guy named Jesse Ventura? Jesse "The Body" Ventura was a professional wrestler who in 1998 won the governor's office in Minnesota. Running as an independent, he pushed his straight-talk populism and regular "working class"-guy approach to the fine people of Minnesota. He promised lower taxes, less government intrusion and other libertarian ideas. Running against two politically weak professional politicians, he hammered home the idea to send a clear message that the people were fed up and weren't going to take any more business as usual at the state Capitol. Well, Jesse "Shocked the World" on election night, defeating the GOP and Democratic candidates quite easily. Trump embodies many of the traits displayed in 1998 by Ventura: a loudmouth, bombastic attitude willing to make controversial statements and attack his competition and detractors in a vain, personal and public manner. His message seems to have caught on, at least for the time being.

I remember Jesse.
Six months after he was elected, he came to support the light rail boondoggle and later, threatened to kill a reporter from the Star Tribune.
But Jesse did keep his word to send back the excess money in the state treasury.
GOPE is stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have no pity.
The “lesson” the Republican Establishment should take away from all this is - fire Karl Rove.
As that ain’t happening, then take the consequences.
The old line GOP better do something quick and realize just how pissed off a lot of us are with the abandonment of conservative principles. They also need to realize they are not going to win the Latino vote whether they play nice or not. They are, however, going to lose a lot of us conservatives if they don’t start acting like a conservative party, and that includes respecting the laws currently in force with respect to immigration. Until I see some honest, conservative, action out of the GOP, they will not get a dime from me.
Yeah they should learn a lesson...
Grow a backbone, stand up for the people you represent, not the lobby groups.
The GOP should have learned a lot from Trump...I doubt they will, but maybe, a few seem to be settling down and starting to act like they might be adults...maybe...
I think they already learned that attacking Trump is not a good thing to do, every time they do he gets more popular.
Ventura was a lib, and a nut. MN may as well have elected the democrat.
I still remember (not in context) during his campaign Jesse Ventura answering a question from a reporter with “that’s not government’s job”. If we could only get Republicans on that train of thought...
I DARE MR RICH BLOWHARD TO COME OUT WITH THIS POSITION
In countries such as Mexico where an American citizen decides to be a legal emigree never mind being a seasonal visitor.
Who are denied voting privledges. Ownership of land in their own name, and selected access to government services. Worse if entering that country illegaly. Then face steep fines and jail time before getting kicked out. Beside being denied use of government services, including; income and energy subsistance including food stamps, or bringing in family members .
Trump announces he doesn’t believe we should not allow any such full citizenship privledges to illegals who are from countries such as Mexico that deny to a legal American immigrant deny full citizenship privledges.
That those “Dreamers” who were given this unconstitutional bypassed federal laws treatment entrance by INS who miss their INS hearing be deported fortwith and denied re-entry. also apply to any illegal convicted of a felony
And announces he supports reciprocal citizenship requirements.....
The Democrat (in Minnesota, the DFLer) came in 3rd.
Yeah I know, spawn of Humphrey.
Skippy.
**Shudder**

When I waited on him when I was a server, he tipped pretty poorly ,too.
