Most Republican voters want Donald Trump to remain in the race for president, and he's the candidate GOP voters are most likely to say they want to see on the debate stage, according to a new CNN/ORC Poll.
Trump, whose campaign for the presidency has come to dominate much of the news coverage of the Republican presidential field since he formally announced his candidacy in mid-June, remains a person Republican voters want to see more of, and a sizable 22% say they think he'll eventually win the party's nomination for president -- second only to Jeb Bush.
Among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents who are registered to vote, 52% say they want Trump to stay in the race for the party's nomination, while 33% hope that he drops out. Another 15% say they'd like to see him make an independent run for the presidency.
The CNN/ORC Poll is the first publicly-released national telephone poll to be conducted entirely after Trump talked about Senator John McCain's military record during an Iowa campaign event last weekend, drawing rebukes from Republicans for saying he didn't think McCain is a war hero.
The majority of those Republicans surveyed that wants Trump to remain in the race includes numbers of those seen as the core of the GOP primary electorate: 58% of white evangelicals, 58% of conservatives, and 57% of tea party supporters.

Im pretty sure that Trump was a registered Democrat for
several years starting in 2009.

Isn’t that ending, not starting in 2009?
I found that too, but note one thing: The link starts with Question 15 (i.e., who do you want as second choice?). Question 11, not on the link, is who they prefer for President. Apparently they’re withholding that a bit longer, so as to get a second news cycle.
It’s probably done a lot, but it’s the first time I’ve seen it.
Take a very close look at that sentence.
See if you can spot the tacit admission that we have NO NEWS, ONLY PROPAGANDA.
I'll help.
The CNN/ORC Poll is the first publicly-released national telephone poll to be conducted entirely after Trump talked about Senator John McCain's military record during an Iowa campaign event last weekend.
All the other polls were suppressed.
You are correct so I withdraw my Obama comment. And, if the Powerline snippet below is correct the switch to the GOP in 2009 makes no sense. I can't figure this guy out. But I struggle to get pumped up about someone who was a registered Democrat just a few years ago.
From a Powerine article:
Nor did a belief to the contrary cause Trump to tilt to the Democrats. According to this account, Trump was a registered Democrat from 2001-2008. He switched his registration the very year that, in his telling, the Republicans crashed the economy.
In truth, Trump is a natural Democrat. His views on major issues are or were until recently standard-issue liberal.
Are you suggesting Trump supported Obama against McCain?
By way of comparison, Jeb Bush has been a registered Republican for his entire life.

I admit I inferred it in my post and I have some seen some favorable comments that Trump made early on about his expectations for the incoming Obama Administration.
But I corrected my error vis a vis Obama and the actual period when Trump was a registered Democrat.
See my Post #25 in this thread for the mea culpa.
By way of comparison, Jeb Bush has been a registered Republican for his entire life.

True enough. We have a pretty wide spectrum of views in the Republican Party. Not so these days with the Democrats.
But everyone needs to go back the last few years and read what Trump has been preaching.
It’s not a pretty picture. Well to the left of even Jeb Bush and that’s not easy.
What ever you you might think of Trump today where he is without doubt shaking up the GOP in a very favorable way there is no denying that he is a classical FLIP-FLOPPER.
I’m sticking with Cruz with Walker as my backup.
Ok, but just for the record, here are the facts.
Trump donated to McCain early in the cycle, he publicly and very enthusiastically endorsed McCain, and he positively raved about Palin—he couldn’t say enough good things about her.
Power-line is interesting but Establishment Gop all the way.
What is the material even stronger than teflon? I think Trump has it.
Could be true about Poweline.
Are the facts incorrect?
Its probably done a lot, but its the first time Ive seen it.

I’ve seen it in variious polling releases. As you say it gives
them various items for new releases over a few days.
In most parts of America, NYC is foreign, as is the dialect. I have trouble understanding Texans too. It's like a whole nuther country, you know.
Worse yet, he will probably just describe Jeb’s “accomplishments” like Common Core, and make him defend them.
Trump is the only one using Alinsky’s tactics (such as ridicule) effectively, and we know how well they work. Wait til he turns up the volume.
OMG, that's a brilliant strategy. Sounds like a wood chipper to me. LOL
And being a registered Republican all his life proves...what?
Reagan historians want to know.
He supported McCain because Obama( the worst ever) was the other alternative. I supported McCain too, but can’t stand him.
