When will Jim banish Trump supporters from FR, like he did with Giuliani advocates? [JR @ 305]
one man's opinion...

Posted on 07/25/2015 2:15:15 PM PDT by ken5050

On 4/23/2007, Jim Robinson posted a manifesto, "Giuliani as the GOP presidential nominee would be a dagger in the heart of the conservative movement" (and a knife in the back) . The thread was subtitled, "The only difference in a Liberal Rudy Giuliani and Liberal Hillary Clinton is the fact of which bathrooms they select to use and there are some who are willing to even question that.

I thought I used to see him quite a bit more frequently, but maybe I’m remembering wrongly.

Check his posting history sometime. His comments here are rare, outside of issues with the website.

I concluded a few years ago that many of those on FR (certainly not a majority) who espouse “purist” views do so in order to encourage others to not vote at all in elections if the candidate does not fit their idea of perfection. Many here stayed home and didn’t vote for McCain or Romney - one reason we have Obama and the resulting unmitigated disaster. Obviously many of these people are principle conservatives who conscientiously can’t vote for a McCain or Romney, but I think many of them are democratic trolls.

What, pray tell, makes "the Donald" acceptable here, whereas Giuliani was not?
Jim’s own answer will of course be definitive - but the difference I see is not between Trump and Giuliani so much as it is between FR’s attitude toward the GOP then and now.

Giuliani was an Establishment GOP-e guy. Trump ain’t. Trump is not exactly the second coming of Ronaldus Maximus, any more than Rudy was. But we now know that the GOP-e is hostile to conservatives - an understanding which we lacked when Rudy was running. The bottom line is that we are pretty close to desperate for a candidate who is not GOP-e.

The people who insist on a pro-abort, pro gay marriage, pro obamacare, pro big government, pro tax and spend, pro unlimited welfare candidates, like to use the term "purist" when referring to those who would like a somewhat reliable conservative when they are actually running.

We are not looking for purity, just a modicum of actual conservatism. Someone who will actually move the ball for the conservatives.

“Trump has contributed financially to both republicans and democrats. I said Trump did not speak out in defense of Cruz when he was getting hit from all sides for “shutting down the goverment” when he was trying to de-fund Obamacare.”

I have no idea what Trump said or didn’t say at this point in time. And neither do you, unless you live inside Donald Trump’s head. Nor was/is Trump obligated to comment on all local, national, or world events as they were happening in real-time. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have opinions, it just means he can’t be verbally everything to all people all of the time. He only has 500 businesses to run. Geez, your expectations of this man are beyond belief. And by the way, Trump is against Obamacare bigtime.

“He will NOT pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee, and will not promise to NOT run a third-party race.”

Sorry Ken, I like your recipes ;) but don’t consider someone not pledging to support a RINO a bad thing.

Yes, Trump has not been a conservative but he is saying things that the field-other than Cruz-have been afraid to say. He has a place in this race because amnesty will destroy this country.

The recently converted/evolved Mitt Romney looks like he has evolved back to liberalism now that he is not running. He is firmly in support of Mr. Amnesty Jeb. This is a good example of pre-election conversions.

I remember when the story came out about Rudy using the remains of the 911 victims to patch potholes in the streets of New York.

Julie Annie was totally unacceptable. His campaign went nowhere.

....In the announcement speech for his presidential campaign, Donald Trump railed against Obamacare. “We have a disaster called the big lie: Obamacare,” Trump declared. “I would repeal and replace the big lie, Obamacare.”

“A bluff is only effective if the entity being bluffed believes there is sufficient probability that the bluff isn’t in fact a bluff. If you/I/anyone conclude that there is sufficient credibility behind Trump’s bluff that the GOP’s behavior would be altered, then Trump’s selfish willingness to throw the election to the democrat’s makes him unsuitable NOW to be a viable Republican candidate. Think it through.”

I think it is a political bluff, but no one knows for sure now, do they. Including the GOPe, lol. I think we should just leave it at that. The great unknown.

Good, then vote for Trump. He will definitely move the ball forward for conservatives. Trump’s a doer, an action man. And you will be pleasantly surprised.

Trump is no Romney. Their personalities are diametrically opposed, and Romney never came flat out and vociferously on conservative issues like Trump does. Apples and oranges.

I would add that in my opinion if Trump is even willing to allow the GOP to believe that he is potentially willing to go third party, then he is unsuitable. Because even allowing anyone to believe that he is willing to do so is tantamount to suggesting that he is willing to increase the probability that the democrats win the election. Make no mistake, if Trump goes third party, the democrats chances of winning go up. There is no excuse for that.

No thanks. Cruz is the proven conservative. He is no Johnny-come-lately. Even Walker has better conservative creds than Trump.
