OSKALOOSA, Iowa Speaking here at his first campaign event in Iowa, Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump had high praise for a site thats an important factor among conservatives and the media: The Drudge Report.
Drudge, who is great by the way, Drudge is amazing," Trump said as he was retelling his story of visiting the border in Laredo, Texas.
Trump had little good will for the rest of the media in his speech here in front of a packed auditorium of more than 600 people at Oskaloosa high school (with at least 400 in an overflow room). The billionaire real estate mogul opened his speech by bashing the Des Moines Register whose reporters he had banned from the event, his team said on Friday, because the paper had published an editorial calling on Trump to drop out of the race.
The Des Moines Register is standing outside too," Trump said to cheers from the audience. It's a super liberal rag thats not respected around here.
And yes, the Des Moines paper continues to be bird cage liner. Go Donald!
I think people like it that he is authentic.
And boy, he is definitely authentic.
He got into the Iran deal and actually got into the specifics. You can tell that he has been prepping for the debates because he is inserting more details into his speech.
Also, last but not least, you can tell he is having a good time. He loves to share stories and talk...it is very entertaining in a Jewish comedian kind of way.
That said, he's not a very judgmental person.
But Trump is Trump...and the people seem to love it.
Carson’s probably less of a conservative than Trump.
I want an attorney general that will prosecute Lois Lerner, Hillary, and all the other felon democrats running our government right now, including BO himself.
I think you are right. He was very good at the airport in Laredo the other day. Have not watched the Iowa rally yet. will catch it later tonight.
GG:
You are in for a treat.
That said, I laugh nervously because he is so frighteningly authentic...and so typically insecure.
He's from Jamaica Estates Queens. The well-to-do neighborhood of Queens. But still a very down-to-earth place.
Ordinary...ethnic.
A million light years from Manhattan.
When I lived in Manhattan a million years ago, there was an old saying that the greatest distance on earth was that from the "outer boroughs" (i.e. Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island) to Manhattan.
I was a hick from South Georgia who spent my career on Wall St. I know it is easier to go from a small town in So GA to Wall St than from the outer boroughs.
Southerners are naturally dignified...Outer Boroughs folks, not so much.
Which is why Trump registers with ordinary folks.
Trump isn't just ordinary, he's tacky. And folks like that. They forgive that...because he's not pretending to be someone he's not.
Like all REAL Noo Yawkers, he is the original article...what you see is what you get.
Actually, it takes more brains than guts.
Trump knows (and WE know) that the rag will smear, crucify and eviscerate him every day right up till 24 hours before the primary polling places open up in the morning.
He's now pre-empted the rag, put it on the defensive, got the editorial writers all in a state of rage where they'll over-react and make mistakes, caught the attention of voters in the entire state, and, best of all, he's earned the admiration of everyone who's ever despised a know-it-all, holier-than-thou newspaper in the past or present.
He slammed the door smack in the face of the paper's biased, lefty reporters at the event...what's not to love about THAT !!!
Damn good strategy, Donald!

Well we just got back from beer and wings at Taco Mac’s with some dear friends. They are now Tump bots and we were all screaming about how its like the newest soap opera and you cannot wait for the next installment. My friend’s husband who a month ago at Taco Mac’s had said he was all in for Walker watched his announcement speech and said “what was I thinking” and went for Trump. His wife my BFF is from New York and a month or so ago she was not a big Trump fan. Now she’s all in for Trump. Its like a fever. And we are all four conservatives. Mr. GG2 and I were the first to go Trump but its amazing how many people he is winning over every day.
Love GG. Wish I could have been there!
Love IT, GG.
Damn those dirty olive martinis
Oh yeh you should have been there. 2 and half hours of Trump mania and speculation about all things political including Hillary and when the party is going to dump her. The wings were great and they had a new porter called BEll’s porter which has a slight expresso finish and is to die for. What night! :-)
I'm gonna do a thread: "Post your fave Donald Trump campaign salvos."
Although lacerating Iowa media and "criminal Hillary" are right up there, my top fave-----to date----is when Donald said:
"I sometimes have Democrat thoughts."
ROTFLOL.
This is one of Donald's famous teases---the way he's gonna peel votes off Hillary's slobbering Dem base.
Nice deconstruction.
I thought it was hilarious when somebody saw Donald's Brooklyn-speaking Jewish lawyer on Hannity-----said they couldn't understand him----thought he was a "foreigner."
So far, every time Trump opens his mouth, I can’t stop grinning.
He outrageous. I love it.
There's more than a little Borscht Belt comedian in him.
He’s *
Newt did it for one debate and it worked great for him, and then for whatever reason stopped, and his campaign collapsed.
Probably had enough dirt on him to shut him up. With Trump, its hard to dish dirt on someone whose life has been an open book.
