Baltimores hotel business is slumping this summer, just a year removed from a banner season for tourism and reflecting the lingering impact of Aprils riots.
Hotels in downtowns central business district posted an average occupancy rate of 73.3 percent in June, down from 82.5 percent in the year-ago month, according to data from travel research firm STR Inc. The occupancy rate in May dropped 17.1 percent to 64.7 percent.
As colleague Camille Harrison and myself reported in Fridays cover story of the BBJ, hotels arent the only businesses feeling the sting from the riots.
Museums and attractions are struggling, and coming up with new ways to bring tourists back to Baltimore.

I guess cincinnati is up next to meet this fate?
Now there’s a mystery. Cue the X-Files theme song.
Midnight tours of ghettoland so libs can admire their handiwork.
They could always advertise Baltimore as "extreme tourism" to try to appeal to those who find it fun to take vacations in places like Sierra Leone or Chechnya.
Yeah mayor.....control your animals if you want tourism
Three weeks before the riots, I stayed overnight in Baltimore, the night before a cruise from the port. It was WONDERFUL. Letting the inmates run the zoo is taking jobs from very competent neighbors who do very, very well with services for tourists.
gee and its such a nice, friendly, neighborly city too...
wonder why ???
Captain Obvious agrees.
Apologies to Shelley
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
‘My name is Obamandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
Where can I find a great vacation spot where only black lives matter?
At planned parenthood??? Oh, wait...
Zimbabwe is said to be scenic.
Trouble in democrat utopia?
That’s very puzzling.
Oh noes, who woulda thunk.
Notify the mayor and states attorney, they’ll get right on it.
Isn’t it racist to avoid Baltimore after what has happened???
I wonder why?
